Since Mormons are Christians...doesn't that make Christians Mormons???

Please don't torture Christians that way. Throw them to the lions instead...at least that's not boring like the temple.

I've tried to make that point before. Say there is a nice, Savior-loving, scripture-reading Baptist preacher. He doesn't drink, smoke, partake of unwholesome entertainment. He doesn't swear, keeps the Sabbath day holy, is honest in all his dealings and a loving family man. In fact, he can pass most of the questions in a temple recommend interview (see questions @ link http://www.lds-mormon.com/new_temple_questions.shtml )

except things like numbers 3 and 4:

3. Do you have a testimony of the restoration of the gospel in these the latter days?

4 Do you sustain the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the Prophet, Seer, and Revelator and as the only person on the earth who possesses and is authorized to exercise all priesthood keys? Do you sustain members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators? Do you sustain the other General Authorities and local authorities of the Church?

But he wouldn't be allowed in the temple. He has to do certain things to qualify as a worthy Mormon. He has to adopt certain beliefs. But here's the catch. Mormons don't think they have to do anything to qualify as a Christian except SAY THAT THEY ARE. Typical Christian beliefs like the Bible being the only scripture, temple work being done with when the veil of the temple tore after Jesus was crucified, prophets are no longer needed - Christ heads the church now etc. aren't important to Mormons. They don't think they have to believe what Christians believe to be considered Christians yet they expect Christians to believe what Mormons believe to be considered Mormons.

If you ever want to see a Mormon sputter, explain the above to them. They'll blurt out something eventually about being the REAL Christians with the higher law but it's a very angry, defensive explanation when they give it. They want to have their cake and eat it too and then get mad when you ask them to pay for it.

Give me a Christian over a mormon any day. They are simply (not minded!),kind,and real. And they wear real undies.

Your logic is faulty. That's like saying that since all men are human, all humans are men.

Besides, there's nothing there of interest to anyone. It's banal tripe. Why anyone would want to worm their way INTO the temple, when so many of us have had to worm our way OUT, is beyond me.

While mormons claim to be christian, mormons do not truly regard non-mormons of ANY denomination to be true christians.

It's another case of the typical mormon thought-line of "Don't discriminate against us just because we're better than you."

If you ask any mormon, especially the older crowd, they will tell you "we aren't christians, we're mormons".

After my father said this, I asked "but the leaders today say they are?"

To which he replied "yeah, well..."

You can't help but recognize that the whole "we be christians too" is a political ploy.

And, as many have said over the pulpits over the years, the other churches have little bits of truth cobbled together, and we have the responsibility to give them more. Hinckley said that we were not to contend against the churches, but to offer them the truth.

The church does not consider itself to be Christian, at least not in the typical sense but it does want others to think of it as Christian in the typical sense.

Speaking of ecumenicalism, the church has stated that it is not interested in coming together with the other churches, but only to open dialogue between us and them. The church stands above and beyond, and as for all the nonmormon faithful, Joseph Smith made it possible for them to attain other glories, but unless they join the LDS, they can never attain the place where they are with God.
