Shame on TSCC! Shame on that bishop!

My heart goes out to the young woman who was wronged multiple times by various people in her world.

I hope she and her husband have peace and happiness in their new life situation.

Gee where could the idea that a rape victim was at fault come from?

From "On This Day in Mormon History:"

"April 4,1992 - Apostle Richard G Scott tells general conference
that LDS women should avoid "morbid probing into details of past
acts, long buried and mercifully forgotten," and that "the Lord
may prompt a victim to recognize a degree of responsibility for
abuse."
"Among his concluding remarks: "Remember, false
accusation is also a sin," and 'bury the past." Unspoken
background to his remarks is that in recent years current stake
presidents and temple workers have been accused of child abuse
by their now adult children. SALT LAKE TRIBUNE reports that
suicide prevention lines are swamped with telephone calls by
women in days after Scott's remarks."

From "The Miracle of Forgiveness" by Spencer W. Kimball:

"Also far-reaching is the effect of loss of chastity. Once
given or TAKEN or STOLEN IT CAN NEVER BE REGAINED. Even in
forced contact such as rape or incest, the injured one is
greatly outraged. If she has not cooperated and contributed to
the foul deed, she is of course in a more favorable position.
There is no condemnation where there is absolutely no voluntary
participation. It is better to die in defending one's virtue
than to live having lost it without a struggle." (emphasis added)

and also from the same book:

"Your virtue is worth more than your life. Please young folk,
preserve your virtue even if you lose your lives."
--Spencer W. Kimball, "The Miracle of Forgiveness,"

Notice, this means that living rape victims are, to some
extent, morally tainted.

Notice that SWK says that your "chastity" can be "taken or
stolen" and can never be regained. The seriousness of this
loss is underlined by the oft quoted line that was in a First
Presidency Message:

"I remember how my father impressed the seriousness of
unchastity upon my mind. He and I were standing in the railroad
station at Rexburg, Idaho, in the early morning of 12 November
1920. We heard the train whistle. In three minutes I would be
on my way to Australia to fill a mission. In that short
interval my father said to me, among other things, “My son, you
are going a long way from home. Your mother and I, and your
brothers and sisters, will be with you constantly in our
thoughts and prayers; we shall rejoice with you in your
successes, and we shall sorrow with you in your
disappointments. When you are released and return, we shall be
glad to greet you and welcome you back into the family circle.
But remember this, my son: WE WOULD RATHER COME TO THIS STATION
AND TAKE YOUR BODY OFF THE TRAIN IN A CASKET THAN TO HAVE YOU
COME HOME UNCLEAN, HAVING LOST YOUR VIRTUE." (emphasis added)
--Marion G. Romney, First Presidency Message, ENSIGN, Sept 1981

Even though the victim was drugged, she can still be accused
under Mormon thinking. Was she alone with this boy in a car?
Aren't Mormons taught this is dangerous and to be avoided? Was
she dressed modestly? And, of course, when Mormons say
"modestly," they mean was she dressed as a frumpy, asexual
being so that no "bump or curve" could be detected (and, of
course, no shoulders showing). If she was dressed OK on this
occasion had she ever been less that perfectly-modestly dressed
in this boy's presence on another occasion? Did she ever
express a thought in his presence that could be construed as
less than pure? Remember to avoid the very appearance yadda
yadda.

So to sum up the MORMON view that her bishop was working under

(1) Her chastity was gone, never to be regained, and she'd be
better off dead.

(2) She needs to recognize that it is probably her fault to
some extent.

(3) The fact that she's still alive speaks against her.

Mormonism is all about making it YOUR FAULT. Well, that's only
if it's a bad thing. If anything good happens to you it's the
Church's fault.

Evil organization.

It angers me when I read stories about women being told that it is their fault that they got raped and how other's especially men, punish them for it. The culture of blaming the woman isn't just an issue within the Mormon church but within all walks of life but I can definitely see how the Mormons can use this to their advantage.

For being big-time creationists, the Mormons sure emphasize the primate male dominance hierarchy.

I seriously doubt any other species of ape would be this cruel.

Hey, ladies, good news! Death is preferable to losing your virtue!

Just make sure you kill him with the first shot.

In the Lily-White world of MoMism, people Always know the standards-morals & priorities of those they associate with; IRL, not so much...
