Well, that's no more ridiculous than just picking the next old white guy in line to be the "prophet."
Religion. Sheesh.

So if the eighth reincarnation of the first Takshem Lama, who lived in the 16th century has been baptized and endowed by proxy in a Mormon temple, wouldn't that make this reincarnated person who is allegedly now a child living in Minnesota a baptized Mormon?

Good point.
But this kid is studying. You don't have to study to be a mormon. Or a mormon prophet.

The Sixth Dalai Lama didn't keep his vows and "mysteriously" disappeared...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6th_Dalai_Lama

"Tsangyang Gyatso had always rejected life as a monk, although this did not mean the abdication of his position as the Dalai Lama. Wearing the clothes of a normal layman and preferring to walk than to ride a horse or use the state palanquin, Tsangyang only kept the temporal prerogatives of the Dalai Lama. He also visited the parks and spent nights in the streets of Lhasa, drinking wine, singing songs and having amorous relations with girls. Tsangyang retreated to live in a tent in the park near the northern escarpment of Potala Palace. Tsangyang finally gave up his discourses in public parks and places in 1702, which he had been required to do as part of his training"

I'm the reincarnation of a peruvian llama.

Wasn't Dolly the Llama the first mammal cloned? Maybe I'm confused.

What would the reincarnation of a carnation be?

While the process seems romantic, it actually involves a lot of political maneuvering. You don't get to be the next Lama by chance. if this is true, than you can bet your ass the boy's family have been working hard to get him vetted.

Good grief.

Why don't they just state they have identified a child they are going to groom, brainwash and sequester in a monastery as a figurehead.

But no. They have to add superstitious reincarnation woo to pretend there's more to it.

It reminds me of bees selecting and grooming their queen for a hive.

Mormons are amateurs, I tell you.
