1) brooklyn bridge took like 20 years. Thousands of Irish immigrants worked on it.
2) the US capital took over a 100 years, it wasn't done until the 1900's.
3) the National Cathedral in Mexico, Mexico started in 1600's wasn't done until the 1860's. There's more Aztec gold there than anywhere I know of? It's quite a gory site. dead bodies on display and everything.

St Peter's Basilica cost 47 million ducats which is an ounce of gold. At $1300 an ounce it would have cost 61 billion dollars in today's money.

The construction of the great wall cost the lives of over a million people and stretches over 5,000 miles long. Easily a 100 billion dollar project with some estimates putting it into 300 billion.

Your post made me curious so I looked up St. Peter's Basilica and the ducat. According to Wikipedia, the Basilica did indeed cost almost 47 million ducats to construct. However, the article on the ducat claims that this coin weighed only 3.5 grams, which is far less an an ounce (whether troy or avoirdupois).

Using Wikipedia's figures and the current price of gold, I calculate that the Basilica cost only about seven billion dollars, or not that much more than the high estimates for the City Creek Center.

Donald Trump can build a wall half that long for twice the price, no doubt.

My guess is that both the 100,000 men and the 20 years are a bit
high. But one thing is clear. The Egyptians knew how to
organize. There are about 2.3 million blocks in the Great
Pyramid. If you divide Khufu's 22 years by 2.3 million blocks,
you end up with just slightly over 5 minutes per block. And
this is working around the clock 24/7. That's 5 minutes to
quarry a 2-3 TON block, transport it to the site, put it in
place and finish it. Clearly they had MANY blocks in process at
any one time.

Oh, and did I mention that this is long before the iron age?
They had to do this all without iron or steel tools.

Engineer Gerard C. A. Fonte has studied the matter and come up
with a way that 10,000 workers could have built it in a year.
Or 4000 workers in 4 to 6 years.

My guess is that this is, as with all engineering schedules,
overly optimistic.

Why? Because the Brethren were mindful of the fact that it was being built using tithing money, so they were careful to not overspend and to get best value for everything. /<<<sarcasm off>>>/

By comparison the Salt Lake Temple took 40 years to build.

The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona was started three decades after the SLC temple's groundbreaking, but is still under construction today. It's way better looking too.
