That's the exact quote my sisters MIL said to me when she found out I resigned. She had her hand on my shoulder and was looking as sincere and deeply into my eyes as she could when she said it. I didn't know if I was supposed to be angry or if I was supposed to bust out laughing. So I kept my composure and just responded with, "well, if heaven is just going to be made up of stuffy, self righteous Mormons, I can't say I share in the sadness".

Kind of reminds me of that joke: A guy dies and gets to the pearly gates. St. Peter is there to meet him. He escorts him around, giving him the grand tour. The guy is pretty shocked to see Muslims, Hindu, evangelicals, Catholics, Buddhists, etc walking around. He was happy everyone made it. Everyone was freely walking around and having a great time. Then they walked by this huge walled city. The guy asked St. Peter who that was for. St. Peter simply said, "oh yeah, we made that for the Mormons. They think they're the only ones here". Haha

I try to laugh in the faces of mormons who pull that stunt.

"Ha-ha-ha! Not to worry. God will make that decision when the time is right. It's not up to you or me! But I think you must be joking!"

Then walk away or change the subject. Never give them comfort or the satisfaction of thinking they've "touched your heart" when it's just a big manipulative ploy.

I heard almost the same phrase from an uber TBM woman about her wild child daughter.....and I thought "you presume a lot don't you?". I wish I'd have said it to her face.

Well, EQDO, it sure, as fuck, wouldn't be heaven if you weren't there! Or Cheryl, or Ron, or... or....

Great answer!

I probably would have just laughed at her and said, "well aren't you special".

I would just tell that person a story -- "Well, I have a very nice place right on the beach there, and you can feel free to come visit anytime. You might want a break from looking at all those golden streets and buildings. Of course, if you are too busy with callings and church busy-work there, I totally understand."

That's cute, They'd also need one got the JWs. They believe that only 144,000 of them are going , or were they talking about something else that happens before heaven? I think their heaven is on Earth, after its destroyed and made pure again , yeah , right
The fundamental baptist believe they're only going if they say a certain prayer . No wonder everyone is do mixed up about a heaven
The way you describe it with Buddhists and Hindus would be right if there was s heaven, they don't believe they're the only ones

I would have gone into a long laughing episode. Then ask them if that was really what they believed.

It's stuff like this that makes be wonder if all this isn't some kind of Truman Show, with the most brilliantly written comedy in the universe.

She hugged me and said I was so good that she felt really bad we wouldn't see one another in the hereafter. I said, "Oh I'm sure we will, god is not that mean!"

Even God waits to judge people until their lives are over. But some religious folks think they can prejudge them.

(What makes them think it's them and not you who are going to heaven.)

That feeling is mutual. I'm sorry you will not be with me in heaven, because I'm a Christian now and you are trapped in a corporate masonic cult.

You could tell them that Jesus tore the veil so there would be no secrecy between us and God.

For me this is the trinity as Mormon language is different.

I remind them that God is not cruel and does not separate people here on Earth or in Heaven.

Then they tell me... YOUR RIGHT.. ha.. they don't believe that. They just don't have a leg to stand on.

Differences between mainstream Christian heaven and Mormon CK aside, the concept of heaven is still pretty awful.

Some of my relatives have pulled that one.

I usually just ignore it.
When they repeat and insist, they usually get:

"I'm not. I wouldn't want to spend eternity with a bunch of self-righteous, judgmental, delusional jerks."

:)

My sister pulled that on me just the other day when we were discussing my mothers second husband that I didn't much care for. She had said that Mom and the husband were sealed in the temple, oh ho hum, and I said "no way do I want to be sealed to him", knowing full well the whole thing is meaningless and so my sister says "well you don't have to worry about it".
Boom!!!.. well alrighty then. She recently married a decrepit temple worker who can barely see, hear or walk. I guess she's a tad angry?

I'm sealed to my parents....and I don't care a whit about that. I made the most of the years I had with them. That's more important.
