They are required, according to policy, to send a letter inviting the member to attend a Disciplinary Court. I suppose someone could be exed without their knowledge, but I don't think it's policy.

I don't know of any specific case that the LDS Church helped pay for attorney's fees in a child custody case. It could happen, though, I suppose. Again, I don't think it's church policy.

They are supposed to send out notices of diciplinary council and excomunication, per thier own policy. But I have never seen the notices sent certified mail or anything like that so I suppose they could get lost or misdirected and noone would be the wiser.

I doubt they would pay for an attorney, but I could be mistaken. The morg rarely surprises me anymore.
