Marilyn Bushman is a poet and author. She has won awards from the Association of Mormon Letters, the Comstock Review, and the Utah Arts Council. She has five published books, including 3 poetry books, a children’s poetry book and a biography: “Worthy.” One of her poetry books, “Cheat Grass,” about her southern Utah grandparents, was chosen for the Pearle M. Olsen Award in 1999, making her that year's Utah State Poetry Society Poet of the Year.
Marilyn self-describes as a liberal Mormon feminist, having been active in feminism (and liberal both in politics and the Church) since the early 1970's. She is married to Blaine Carlton, her high school sweetheart, and the two of them adore their five children and 16 grandchildren.
Marilyn and Connie will discuss the creation of their book, “Worthy” a biography covering Connie Saddler’s life journey, starting with a childhood of poverty and abuse. While fleeing that dysfunctional life, Connie fell prey to a polygamous family where she suffered years of control and heart-ache before she found the courage and strength to finally leave.
