I don't think they really understand what the problem of addiction is. Watching porn or playing computer games or drinking a cup of coffee or a glass of wine is not a problem of addiction. The problem is if you can't stop yourself from watching porn while at work or need a glass of wine to not shake uncontrollably e.t.c. There are real paralyzing and very destructive addictions and then it's enjoying things and these two phenomenons are actually very easy to distinguish from each other.
That doesn't establish any "porn and drug connection." And it doesn't justify "porn is a drug."
What the research does show is that certain brain areas (reward and pleasure centers) show similar activity during compulsive (but not non-compulsive) porn use and during compulsive drug use.
Which tells us something about how compulsions are driven by our need for reward and pleasure.
But doesn't tell us that "porn is a drug." Because it's not.
By the way, the same brain areas light up during sex -- even non-compulsive sex. How about that.
A picture that produces two quotes that *don't* support your claim that porn is a drug? That's what you offer?
Hey, genius -- porn is pictures. It's not a drug. Some human brains react similarly when compulsive behaviors from either porn or drugs stimulate the pleasure centers...but that doesn't make porn a drug, or drugs pictures.
Now if you'd actually *read* the research, instead of just look at the headlines, you might be able to come up with some facts. Somehow I doubt that's going to happen, though...
Apples and oranges have some common attributes. They both grow on trees, they both contain seeds, they both contain sugars. However, apples are not oranges. Get it?

"People who reported greater problems controlling porn use had no clear change in the P300 value related to their level of sexual problems, whether they viewed porn or neutral images such as food or people skiing (Socioaffective Neuroscience & Psychology, 2013). "Our findings don't make them look at all like addicts," she says. Meanwhile, a 2013 study by researchers at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom suggests that a penchant for porn may be more compulsion than addiction. In a study of porn use among 226 men, the researchers found that certain traits — neuroticism, agreeableness, conscientiousness and obsessional checking behaviors — were correlated with high pornography use (Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, 2013). Men who have trouble resisting the lure of porn websites might simply have dispositions that make them more vulnerable to compulsive problems in general, the researchers concluded."
I think the OCEAN test could actually prove valuable to this sort of thing and study. :)
Calling it a compulsion is also fine with me...It's not the product that's necessarily addictive, it's the person and the ways in which they consume the product and how it affects their life.
Mormons are addicted to meetings. They find that if they can't go they experience anxiety and guilt. This addiction is bad and it affects those around them. Addicts will even leave there small children with strangers just to go to a meeting.
Here is some help. They're having a free community meeting about this on November 14 at the high school. There's no sign of morg involvement in the ad. Just the school districts and CPS.
Our community even has a porn recovery group as well!
My ex husband was an ex missionary; he had an addiction to masturbation long before I married him. I didn't learn about this until about 2 years into the marriage.
So it's not a about a problem of addiction? How about addictive behaviour; he said he just couldn't stop himself.
What fed into his addiction was his sneaky compulsion to buy printed pornography (Playboy, Penthouse...etc, to get him aroused.... so this was long before the internet access).
There was certainly nothing wrong with me and my appetite, my appearance, my weight, my personality, in that marriage. I discovered that being beautiful and available has nothing to do with stopping the behaviour of someone who is Ocd, with a mental problem who is addicted to masturbating and pornography. I learned that he repeatedly counselled with Bishops about his addiction and repeatedly fell off the wagon. It was crazy making in the marriage.
I am happy I am OUT of that marriage and IN a healthy relationship now.
Mormon sexual repression causes sneaky compulsions that some guys can't overcome. It's a breeding ground for abnormal psychology. If you're really following Church counsel, you'll try really, really hard to not think about sex or masturbation. The result? It's all you think about.
Pretty sad piece there. It cherry-picks "research" that fits the author's pre-conceived notion while ignoring any that contradicts it (and there's a lot), resorts to name-calling, and blames ALL sex practices on "libs and progs." All from an author with zero experience in scientific research.
That piece can be safely filed in the circular file.
I like cake. Sometimes I like my cake with icing. Doesn't mean I am addicted to icing. Also I like pie, I am not addicted to cake. Cookies are good, but a hot fudge brownie Sunday, with 3 strawberries, and a strip of bacon will cause my eyes to roll to the back of my head.
Porn is hilarious because it warps minds and causes shame. That's why I don't look at it, but I laugh quite a bit at the people it has changed into something disgusting. }:-)
