There is hope in Utah among the young Mormons. Many of my Mormon child's fellow students are Mormon as well.

My child is going to SUU and asked me today to share on my Facebook their recently finished project for their class. Here it is.

https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2F100009282779230%2Fvideos%2F1733416500311092%2F&show_text=0&width=560

I'm very proud of them.

Here is what I wrote in sharing it.

This silent tacit societal acceptance of never wanting to deal with or hear about sexual abuse is nothing short of wanting to see no evil, hear no evil, and hide evil for the sake of believing we have a more enlightened society than we really do. I believe rapists and victims are groomed by a false ideal of society to not seek help.

Please share this to raise awareness and not stay silent. We are sexual and downplaying this fact for the sake of decency perpetuates more victims sacrificed on our altars of indifference to others.

This video sure beats this crap produced by BYUI.

The slick polish of the higher budget propaganda film produced by BYUI stands in stark contrast to the raw power of truth captured by your son's video. The purpose of one is to enslave and brainwash, and the other is to empower.

This contrast is so stark in Mormonism. The rank and file have all the important issues to deal with and the leaders in both Salt Lake City and all the BYUs are more concerned with boys masturbating to porn in college.

The people these kids should reach (those leaders) could care less about the issues around sexual silence about abuse.

It took many many court cases for the past leaders (and some of these old stiffs) to wake up to the problem they help foster with their purity gospel (and prosperity gospel like God will give you money for not masturbating.)

This is wonderful.

My kid also attends SUU, but has only become more solidly Mormon. Wish he was hanging out with the ones that made this video.

Sigh...

Really, really powerful. Your daughter and her classmates should be proud.

Thanks. I will tell her that I am.

Edit: This is what I posted.

I'm very proud of you and your fellow students. It seems that personal "purity" for young people always takes center stage in doubly victimizing young people who are sexually assaulted. I applaud this video and your hard work at school.

I congratulate your son and his fellow students on a very effective video.

As for the BYUI video, it is disturbing on so many levels it makes me relieved all over again that I saw the truth and resigned my membership years ago. It seems to put masturbation on a level of importance equal to war and equal to young men and women dying in war. Only people with no experience of war, no experience in confronting mortality, and no interest in even trying to understand what dying in battle at a young age feels like, could make such a despicable film. By somehow equating leaving a buddy on the battlefield with failing to stop a friend from wanking, it makes a horrifying mockery of the courageous young men in our country's history who have made the ultimate sacrifice in laying down their lives for their country and for freedom. Quite frankly, I consider the film to be pornographic in the extreme. I'm sorry I clicked on it. Truly disturbing.

Again, I congratulate your son on a powerful and truthful video. I remain grateful as always that I've resigned from TSCC.

It seems to credit another university at the end - Montana? Was it a collaboration?
