A lot of people leave the morgish lifestyle and discover that old habits are hard to break. They seek a new or different religion to replace what they had, but have a hard time finding one that fits them like they would like. Suppose you could create a tailor made religion that had everything you wanted and non of the crap that seems to tag along, what would this new religion look like? Of the following, what would you incorporate and what would you discard?

* A big beautiful building in a prominent location with lavish adornments

* Music of some sort but limited to a certain style and only organ or piano for instrumental

* Imaginary entities that only a select few can speak for

* Praying or chanting

* One meeting once a week, or several meetings during the week

* Speakers who tell you what to do

* Speakers who instruct you in how to accomplish a full range of activities

* A place for youngsters to gather to be with other youngsters

* Dances, dinners, stage productions, recitals, talent shows,

* An established collection of dues

* A dignitary who is looked up to and revered

*

*

Of course, none of this is free. There would have to be some sort of compensation to pay the bills. The more money injected into this tailor made group, the better the benefits. For example a group of 30 who paid 10% might opt for hiring a janitor to clean the building.

Personally, my tailor made religion would be called a social club and we wouldn't worship anyone or anything. There would be a large coffee maker, fridge of beers and wines, and tables instead of pew benches. I would want to attend a get-together about 2-3 times a week and see some entertainment from time to time. I would part with my cash much easier if I knew where it was going.

What would your "religion" be like?

My tailor-made religion would include:

- no buildings
- no leaders
- no dogma
- no doctrine
- no beliefs
- no rules
- no requests for income

It would consist of people who wanted to get together once or twice a month, at a volunteer's home, with volunteers bringing food and drink, to shoot the shit, enjoy each other's company, and enjoy life and the world.

I like these commandments:

"Thou shalt not revere scripture. Scripture is just words on pages. Words on pages are vanity. Seek deeper for truth."

"Thou shalt not be a respecter of persons. It is idolatry to set too much store in thy leaders. Whited sepulchers! The blind leading the blind. Be not like the sheep, for sheep get sheared or slaughtered."

"Think not that you have the truth. If you think that you have the truth, it showeth only that you need to think some more."
