It already is. As with every other ding and dent caused by the Internet, this will have some small but definitive influence on some people. On a large scale likely not noticeable but all of the nudges and influences taken together are resulting in effects like this past years "lowest growth in 25 years."
Seeing that exmos are normal, well-adjusted, happy, successful people will help to dismantle the stereotype that many TBMs have of apostates.
It's happening over at r/exmo. I think it's charming. They took a page from the ex-JWs who like to post their "I'm out" selfies. What I find hugely interesting is how many *young* Mormons, particularly Mormon couples, are leaving. This will represent a real loss for the Mormon church moving forward.
This is what struck me as well...how young they are, both single and married (with kids) folks. The fact that they are all so happy comes as no surprise. Despite what the church preaches, it is hard to argue with the degree of happiness one experiences once the "one true church" is dumped.
Yeah, this has gotta hurt...now and in the future. The "up and coming best and brightest" generation of smart, bright, and happy folks are getting out. And taking their future missionary/tithe paying kids with them.
I joined in on that too over on ex mormon reddit. They're a fun crowd and the family pics are really nice. One pic was a bishop, a family and some friends who all got out at the same time. That melted my heart!
I found one comment hilarious...sorta shows mormons are losing their fear of the great gawd and his stooges the scmc...something to the effect...the church used to be like dad with his belt out...now theyre like grandpa hollering at the tv
