A good MORMON, INC. friend of mine posted this on Facebook.

I want to see an accurate map of all Book of Mormon locations.

Personally speaking, my antenna went up when I saw this and read the article. They're still up!

I'll bet they won't allow independent testing of these plates. Kinderhook Plates, perhaps?

This one line is what set me to laughing: "Many of the symbols on the plates found by the archaeologists are identical to those drawn by the prophet, in 1928."

Maybe it's just my twisted sense of humor, but I'm fairly sure that in 1928, Joseph Smith was a little too dead to be drawing up any symbols.

Confused...didn't JS die in 1844?

Yes that is true but he got his plates at the DMV so it took until 1928 for the Federal agent Moroni to deliver them.

it this for real? The article was published recently, but the comments are from 2015. Surely we would have heard of it by now.

It is a hoax, there is no "Abraham Jones". I googled it and even TBMs say it is a hoax. Just "fake news".

It's a joke site - 'fake news'.

Just look at the other article titles:

"Pyramids Were Built With Help From Dinosaurs, Claims Top Egyptologist"

"Aliens meddled with U.S. election claims controversial expert"

"National Geographic cameraman arrested for raping a zebra"

I don't have the time to research it right now, but I'm willing to bet there's no 'Professor Abraham Jones' at BYU's archaeology department.

Thank your friend for the great laugh...

If the zebra's shoulders were bare, she was asking for it.

HAHAHAHA... is your friend really that gullible to believe this obvious fake news site???!!!!

What did he say and what are the other TBM's saying about the article?

You really should gently break it to him that this article is made up.

I prefer The Onion, where fake news is laugh-out-loud funny.

However, I have to chuckle if TBM's think this is real....

Well, I have family members who would glom onto ANY scrap of evidence, fake or not, that MIGHT validate the plates...Yikes..

the picture on the linked article is of a lead codice found in jordan. Amazing that some folks believe anything they read.

It's no wonder the plates took so long to find. Ground-penetrating lasers had to be invented to search for them.

I suspect the comments are from TBMs. I'd forward the link to TBM friends just to mess with their heads.

Fake???? I really must bare my backside, oops sorry, meant to say bear my testimony that I know the Australian drop Bear, the hoop snake and the kangaroos that sell newspapers at major railway stations in Australia are true and that they are on a par with the golden plates and the teachings of Joe Smith. I say these words in the name of Carlton Draught, Foster's Lager and meat pies. Amen.

I had the same recollection as "Anonuk" about the metal codice, and he gets my thanks for the information that was sufficient to help me find links to the original story.

Check out, however, this one from a UK Tabloid...

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2298142/first-ever-written-mention-of-jesus-confirmed-as-experts-say-2000-year-old-lead-tablets-found-in-remote-cave-are-genuine/

I need to go keep Zion safe from drunks and rescue Sundance goers from the latest snowstorm folks are claiming proves global warming is a myth, so I don't have time to run this one down further.

It's that "2,000 Year Old Picture of Jesus" that plugged up the ol' bullchip catcher...

BTW, there's no way to date lead with the precision they're claiming...

Carry on...

I am kinda surprise SL Cabbie did not point out this fake story is almost two years old (April 2015). The comments are dated 2015. If any portion of it was true, TBM's would be telling the world.

Mormons could easily fall for a story like that reported by OP. The Maxwell Institute (formally FARMS) has published a summary of accounts given by earlier Mormons about plates hidden in a cave under the Hill Cumorah:

ya it's fake news but I've always thought that some BYU folks really should go dig up that mountain and see whats in there. For the life of me I can't think of a reason that it's not been bulldozed?

If what I'd call the Joe&Co joke is really the Truth,
dirt fishers from Provo may expect to find truck-loads of shields, spears, swords of steel, slings, arrows and several million Jew skeletons, all spread around that famous drumlin.

The BoM narrative tells us that two meat-grinder gorefest wars played out right there.

Get cracking you Farms lot! If you find Hill Cumorah fields not white with Nephite bones, it may just prove that some ivory-tower Farmers are just continuing the flim-flam of il gioco di JoeCo.

When I was TBM and believed, I used to wonder why the Church did not simply dig the hill away.

The Hill is huge and since Mormonism is fake why look for more fake stuff that is not there?
