I don't fully understand it but there is a conspiracy theory about Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Lady GaGa being trans to turn youth into genderless consumers or something. Since we are already a consumer society I don't get the gender part of the supposed "conspiracy."
Actually gender-bending is a long standing tradition in popular music and classical, as well as in drama and other arts, at least for men. The soft romantic and young lead has often been considered sexier than the hardened old man. Think Lord Byron all the way to Johnny Depp. It's nothing new. Read Camille Paglia.
interesting that there are always boys bands around, but girls bands just aren't the thing the public doesn't go for it, kinda like women's basketball, just not the same? lol!
