Trend setter is one of those multipage stories with a little bit on each page. This one was a list of the World's Richest Cult Leaders, and it includes some you'd expect like Sun Yong Moon and L. Ron Hubbard. I was a bit surprised to see Thomas S Monson listed - only because I didn't think too many people considered Mormonism a cult.

Not certain where this link will open, I copied it while on Monson's page.

The bit about him says he receives a salary of $300,000 annually, and lives in a 24,000 square-foot condo as well as having constant limo services available and personal body guards.

I'm not sure a annual salary of $300,000 could make him one of the richest leaders in the world, who knows?

Also, I've often wondered who makes the decision about how much he makes?

I'd agree that $300k annually hardly compares with the net worth of many of the others included in the list. They didn't mention Monson's net worth. They may not have known what it was or it wasn't as lavish as most of the others mentioned.

Since the LDS Church is a corporation sole, he has effective control over far more assets than he owns personally that he can use to his benefit.

It's kind of like the Vladimir Putin and the Russian state. It's hard to know where one begins and the other ends.

The dollar amount of monetary wealth or income is not really relevant. Trips to Hawaii? Free. 24/7 Health care? Provided. Meals? Covered. Clothing? Whatever he wants. Etc.

Despite the mormon cult's efforts to promote a non-cult image, most of the world does indeed consider mormonism a cult.
For good reasons -- it is one.

This ^^^^ 100%

In spite of what members believe, the vast majority of people consider TSCC a cult.

If you have all the assets of a multi-billion dollar corporation at your disposal, your salary is largely irrelevant/symbolic. Not a few ceos have salaries of $1 a year.

$300,000 isn't a lot, but for what Monson actually physically does, it's a nice salary. It might be because instead of staying in bed relaxing, at his age, like other seniors his age and his mentality, he's forced to still travel, make appearances , etc.
The Queen of England and royal family never carry cash, but they have castles, mansions to live in, constantly traveling in posh places, jewels, designer clothes.

Man, the picture of Monson doesn't pop up on FB. At first that disappointed me, but then I realized that the one with people in robes and a spaceship flying overhead might intrigue TBMs to click the link whereas if the see TSM they might ignore it as anti!

The link at least still goes straight to TSM's page! ;)

My brother called from the COB once, and even though caller ID couldn't show the entire name, I realized it said "The Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

So, rich...yeah.

Until he dies, Monson esentially owns the church. He is worth billions of dollars.

Who the hell needs to live in a 24,000 sq foot condo?

Please tell me that is a typo!

Between the salary, the limo service, bodyguards, condo etc., healthcare, stock portfolio, etc, the $300,000 is just the tip of the iceberg.

His total compensation package is easily well into the millions.
