My parents listened. They were beyond shocked when my marriage fell apart and they found out my ex is gay. They never thought I'd leave the church as I was their most devout child. They were very supportive. My inactive siblings and nieces and nephews were thrilled. My younger brother, long inactive, told me I had finally give him permission to allow himself to finally not think he had to believe.
I realize now that I'm one of the lucky ones. Even my aunt, whose husband was a SP, and she had always been RS presidents, etc., listened and she thought I should live my life as I felt was right. She was thrilled when I started dating my old boyfriend who is a nonmormon.
