There's a billboard at the edge of a wrecking yard heading into Salt Lake County that the mormon church rotates pictures and such about Temple square. The one that is being promoted right now doesn't make any sense to me. It shows the temple and the saying "wonder as you wander". I guess they are going for a sense of wonder and awe as people walk around temple square. But, I kind of laughed as the unintended message to non members seems more like "I wonder what in the heck goes on in that temple".

That's because the mormonite leaders wander... and clearly don't wonder.

There is one near Ogden on the North end, too.

The only way it could be more cheesy is if it said, Ponderize as you wander." They are really pushing the "feelings" big time, but I guess you gotta go with what you got.

Ponderize on your pedestrian path.

At a wrecking yard...how appropriate!

You know, since the church wrecks lives and stuff...:)

I've always thought it was a very strange place for the LDS Corp to have an ongoing billboard campaign. It was probably pretty cheap.

It's all about gimmicks.

As a mashie in the early 90s, obedience to mission rules was demanded so you could be "in tune" with the spirit. Why?

So you would know what "approach" to use to get the investigator to feel the spirit. We spent hours and hours practicing dumb sales tactics.

"I Wonder As I Wander" is a hymn (and/or Christmas carol). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIZjyf1jhKE

Can you pass the LDS acid test?

Report to Temple Square and find out.

"Come wander around our temple grounds and wonder how amazing we are"

I would love to know how TSCC measures the effectiveness of their advertising expenditures.

I suppose they might at some point add a question in the baptismal interview questions "How did you hear about us?"

But then again, maybe these kinds of advertising are more about:

- Putting money in the hands of a cousin of a GA who owns the sign companies

- Reassuring the shareholders they are vibrant and surging

There was a misprint. The sign read, "wonder as you wanker."
