Another wonderful old-timey reference that few will get. I've read every work of fiction he wrote, and one non-fiction. Certainly my favorite Jewish author.
There's nothing "faith-based" about a Navy hospital.
The article says it's two junior enlisted personnel. And it sounds like the entire Navy medical system will be disrupted by the ignorant actions of two idiots.
Reasonable people will instantly understand that this is not "the Navy," nor any faith, but just two stupid people whose actions should absolutely wreck their own careers, but not make the entire Navy miserable.
This did not happen on the "watch" of the entire US Navy's medical service, yet "Navy Surgeon General Forrest Faison said that he has directed 'immediate mandatory all-hands stand downs within 48 hours at all Navy Medicine commands to review our oaths, our pledges, our reasons for serving, as well as Navy Medicine’s policy regarding use of personally owned phones and other recording devices.'" Also, "commanding officers have been ordered to ensure no other patient photos exist on social media and personal cell phones in patient care areas have prohibited 'until further notice.'" And, he has "directed all commanding officers to personally contact current mothers and expectant mothers planning to deliver in one of our facilities to reassure them, inform them of our actions, and address any of their concerns.”
That sounds like a lot more impact than the "watch" of those involved and responsible (whom I said should be held accountable).
So, no, that's not how it's "supposed to be."
By the way, there are other ways to be "fired" from the military other than a Court Martial.
I agree with the general consensus that these service members were being racist assholes and that religion did not overtly play a role in their actions. Nonetheless, I take your point as well.
I'd have been much more impressed had Navy Surgeon General Forrest Faison been proactive, and prohibited cell phones in patient areas before this occurred, and prohibited posting any patient pictures on social media before this occurred, and made sure every new employee was trained in "our oaths, our pledges, our reasons for serving, as well as Navy Medicine’s policy" before starting work at the facility.
His reaction was fine. It's that it was a reaction, not proactive action, that disappoints me. Effective leaders act, not react.
Cell phone usage by staff is already prohibited in patient care areas of non-military hospitals because of HIPAA. I can't imagine the military would be any different.
I don't care if they're evangelical or atheist. This has just made me so sick. Probably not even close to the first time, just the first time they got caught. Because of their own stupidity.
They are BABIES, ferchrissake! So glad it's gone so public and hopefully so will the outcome. There will be outrage if they're not courtmartialed.
To be technically accurate and not excuse what these women did, I don't believe they actually made them dance, they just made their arms move to the beat of some 50 Cent song.
Unless I misread or didn't read something, there's no evidence that anything they did was physically abusive to the infants.

As a medical care provider, I don't even know where to start so I won't. I hope the babies shown will have, at the very least, the finest educations money can buy paid for by those who chose to abuse them.
