Maybe you need to reschedule this appointment and then just post your favorite song, with videos

Not sure what appointment I need to reschedule but here's ONE of my favorite songs. I'm retired so I don't have many appointments.

I'm an old guy and we got TV in our house for the first time in about 1956. My parents moved to Sandy, UT in 1954 (I was 5) and as I learned later, they couldn't afford to buy a TV right as we moved.

I was (and still am) a car geek so anything on TV with cars was a big deal to me.

This show was on Sunday nights and I loved the theme song and was happy to find a few versions of it on YouTube.

I have been loving Fleetwood Mac lately -- especially this video. Stevie Nicks looks like a doll! And I love the intense looks that Lindsey, the guitar player, gives her. I read about how they had quite the romance back in the day.

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham went to the same high school in Menlo-Atherton, California coming of age in the 70's. One of my high school roommates siblings went to high school with them (they are slightly older than we are.)

They both came from pretty wealthy families even before they became rock legends.

Mick Fleetwood today owns a restaurant on Maui. One of my Jewish relative's husband plays in a band that has played there on and off. They're personal friends of his. Must be fun.

I can't stop watching the video Harry Stiles' "Sign of the Times."

It actually made me cry the first few times just because it was so beautiful visually and aurally.

When you get YouTube Red, one of the features is downloading videos for play when you're not online. If you're saving money by not paying for unlimited data, this is way handy. On my recent trip to Utah, that's all I listened to. (And you can download them to any and all of your wifi devices...)

So when I started selecting songs to download, the vast majority were, at one time or another, 'my favorite song'.

How about this: what song could you listen to over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...?

For me the only one that qualifies, to date, is Pachelbel's
Canon in D.

The weirdest one from my past was Joe Valino's "Garden of Eden", which for a hormone crazed kid was interesting, but completely not doctrinal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTtPAEt9_ZA

I agree about Canon in D. I could listen to that on an endless loop for hours.

I wonder what it means when you pick one over the other?

I got shivers during one, while the other was 'meh'...

I suspect it has to do with the events the mind associates with either with the song itself, what it conjures up in your mind, or what was going on in your heart, mind or home, when you heard it.

I had already downloaded one of them as a favorite song.

For me, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is by far the more profound song, but as a pianist who supplemented my college and med school income playing in bars, I can relate heavily to Piano Man.

That song is breathtaking live. I've seen Pink Floyd four times and Roger Waters twice. That's six live Floyd shows I've seen, the most of any group by far. I love Pink Floyd.

I'm jealous! I first heard that song in 1980 (was at a party) and it's been my favorite every since. It's probably the only song I've memorized the lyrics to. Sadly, I've never seen them live.

Since seeing the movie Dunkirk, Elgar's "Nimrod the Hunter" (which was incorporated into the film score) keeps spinning in my mind. No other piece of music invokes the England I left 50 years ago than this piece, so hearing it is not without emotion. Hardly a song but I suppose the Amore version with words might make it so.

'Tout le bonheur du monde' by Sinsemillia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGBQUcQZmYQ&list=RDdGBQUcQZmYQ

Sorry it's in French but it's so lovely I had to post it. It's dedicated to their children and the text makes me cry :-)

So I've done you a quick translation - quick as in not very polished, but nevertheless comprehensible, I hope.

The song dates from 2004, so the line about avoiding bombs now seems sadly prescient, but was more symbolic at the time.

The title means

All The Happiness In The World

We wish you all the happiness in the world
And that someone will reach out to you
May your path avoid bombs
And lead you to peaceful gardens

We wish you all the happiness in the world
For today and for tomorrow
May your sun brighten the shadows
May it shine with love every day

Since the future belongs to you
Since we can't control your destiny
Since tomorrow is when you'll spread your wings
Since everything we have to offer you
Could never be enough for you
In this freedom awaiting you
Since we"ll won't always be there
As we were for your first steps

We wish you all the happiness in the world
And that someone will reach out to you
May your path avoid bombs
And lead you to peaceful gardens

We wish you all the happiness in the world
For today...

And for all those RMs (and others ;-) who speak French - I know there are quite a few - here's the French text, which is MUCH better:

Hey badass

The French bit is:

A tout le monde
A tous mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir

and it means:

To everyone
To all my friends
I love you
I have to leave

I love and adore music so I don't have just one favorite, but this one evokes wonderful rich memories of my sister playing it when all the family was young and my parents were still alive....

It touches my heart and makes me tear up anytime I hear it.

One of my grandsons started playing the above tune on his own at age six! My DW recorded it! This beat out the incredible playing of our oldest son who, at age nine with only a month of lessons, went to the first Star Wars movie and came home and played the theme from memory, and a grandson who at six learned to play the piano by getting a single 10-15 minute lesson from his mother and reading a book on how to play. Just as I have two left feet as to dancing, I have a total lack of musical talent myself. I can only lip sync.

Love songs with beautiful melodies always win me over.

Here's a couple, the first is a piano solo by a North Korean prodigy. "Kiss the Rain," by Yiruma .. he could be an ambassador for peace if only the war mongers would listen.

My favorite song changes by the day, but I will state this:

Even though I wouldn't call them my favorite, and I don't even usually listen to metal, anytime AC/DC comes on the radio, I turn that shit up LOUD.

Especially Highway to Hell.

Options: ReplyQuote
Posted by: Beth ( )

But it's totally a mood thing. Sometimes it's "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire.

Sometimes it's "Zero Chance," "Switch Opens," "Like Suicide [it's about a crow]" or "Somewhere" by Soundgarden.

"Ecology" and so many more by Marvin Gaye.

"Evolution Revolution Love" by Tricky

Sorry. I can't pick one. It's mood-dependent, and my mood can become dependent on the song. That can be a dangerous feedback loop.
