I rooted for the Dodgers away back when they were in Brooklyn! But the bums left. The only autograph I ever got of a major leaguer was Jackie Robinson.
You sound like my Dad. He grew up in Brooklyn and was devastated when the Brooklyn Bums moved to LA. Later, when I was a kid, we got transferred to SoCal. He would never take me to Dodger Stadium, but we went to Angels games. Later in life, I got transferred to SoCal, I went to a lot of games at Chavez Ravine. But will always be an Astros fan.
5 interceptions Packers? No, seriously, I like the Packers. The last part of the game was scary though( for Packer fans), with all of those rugby passes.
(Like any normal non-New Yorker human being, I fuckin’ HATE the Yankees. However, I’ll be in New York in a few weeks. If they can somehow get by the Indians and etc, I COULD POSSIBLY SEE A WORLD SERIES GAME IN THE FLESH!!! That would be...oh God! Go YANKEES!)
Tigers fan? Did you ever see the movie " Tiger Town? It came out in the early 80s. It was a Disney movie; it came out the same year they were in the World Series. It was filmed in Detroit. Sparky Anderson was in it too, in a few scenes. You should check it out, if you can find it, that is.
(This may out my identity, but what the hell: Tiger Town starred Roy Scheider, Oscar winner for All That Jazz. I started out my work life as a ‘wardrobe fag’ (among other positions) on films and stage. I dressed Roy Scheider on a film in the early nineties. Even got an on-screen credit. Scheider was 100% New Yorker, and a Yankee fan.)
My lawyer called saying he had an extra ticket. At first I turned him down because I was committed to a fund raising poker tournament. But after talking a bit I said, "Screw the poker tournament. How often does one get to see the modern-day Koufax (Kershaw) pitch?" I'm guessing the seats will be great.
Now we have to decide weather to eat at Philippe's before the game or load up on Dodger Dogs at the stadium. Hey, why not do both?
Yay Cubbies! They're going to have another parade where the whole city shows up again! Repeat performance ( I hope) I do like the Dodgers though, in all fairness, phenomenal team this year
It kind of looks like (if this post doesn't jinx it) that Los Dodgers de Los Angeles are going to this year's World Series. If the Yankees hang on to win, it'll be the 12th time the two teams have met in the WS, with the last time being in 1981, the year Francisco Valenzuela won both rookie of the year and the Cy Young award.
1981 was a good year. AIDS had not yet been 'invented' and I was driving a very fast car.
That was my era, the 80s, the whole decade, Chicago. I remember Ron Cey, the Penguin from the Dodgers. Football was my original sport , Pittsburgh Steelers, still my team. My dad , then husband was military, so I still love Chicago baseball , basketball, hockey, but Pittsburgh football.
The Raiders beat Kansas City and my heart is still recovering from the match, we suffered a lot but we won, so I don't care about the Dodgers and the Cubs.
elderolddog, I wish you and the Dodger’s all the best in the Series. It will be one for the record books, I’d wager.
We watched game 7 of yanks & astros with the laptop out ready to purchase some World Series tickets. Yankees Dodgers would have been awesome. Don’t ask me how I feel about my Tiger Verlander being the spoiler. I thought MVP should have gone to Altuvé but it’s not like Justin is undeserving.
Excellent series! As much as I hate the fuckin’ Yankees, the present club of guys were an absolute joy to watch, especially in the Bronx.
Yay! Dodgers here too! They haven't been in it in a while; we had our turn last year, at least they made it to the championship game. I hate the Astros, I still remember them when they were in the National league. We used to call them the a s s h o l e s in Chicago,
Wow. Great memory. The Astros have only been in the AL for 4 years. The reason you Chicago fans hated the Astros was because they always kicked their asses.
You got me there LOL. Yeah, I remember the few years when the Cubs were in first place and the Astros towards the bottom, and beating us all the time, couldn't wait for that series to be over, knocked us down in the standings. Another year we were dead last place and the Mets in first, but we beat the Mets a lot that year. Sports has very funny statistics. Probably what one team has , the other team is lacking and VS
Yeah. I was a fan when they were the "Lastros". But in the late 70's they had the best promotions to attract fans. Tuesday was nickle beer night. "Foamers" were when they'd pick an inning beforehand. If the Astros hit a home run in that inning it was free beer until the score changed. Beer vendors would roam the Astrodome aisles with "Coldest foam in the Dome".Great times.
Been bleeding Dodger Blue since we got TV in 1955...and my little brother became a Yankee's fan. Would like to see them take it this year. Woulda been cool if they were playing the Broncs Bombers though.
I'm more of a football fan over baseball but I did watch the Yankees & Astros game and, I must say, I really enjoyed it. As for football, being from Colorado, I have always been a Broncos fan. I have recently started watching the occasional college game (go Utes!) but my favorite college team is always the one who is playing BYU :)
