I think its important to find a new crowd after mormonism that is not religious. It helps find your real personality and forces you to be more authentic around other authentic people. It also helps keep your mind off of your issues for a bit and forces you to be smart with strategies to win using your mind. I don't know why but i think this is important for recovery. You can have a real life outside of holy buildings or being a part of religious instutions i know its weird but it is possible. I think it is key to be physically around real people not in a church building to speed up recovery, that is just my opinion.

Plus, many mammals with similar gestation period lengths and child-raising strategies show highly communal behaviors--monkeys, for example, they help each other with child raising and other survival needs. I don't think recovering mormons are the only ones that need a crowd. Most everyone does! Not everyone, of course, but many.

Yes I totally agree with that! I live in Utah "yippee skippee" and If I didn't have my exmo friends I think my sanity would have gone out the window by now! It is so nice to not talk or think about anything religious. I am so religioned out for a lifetime and none of it mattered or got me to heaven which i don't care about anyways. No jesus ever healed me for going to church and that is a fact.

Pretty populated mormon place. They all do the chanting around these parts. But there is a small faction of non-mormons that play cards. And yes no mormon is ambitious but they love to scold others that aren't. They bow their head and say yes for eternity. Ya my tbm friend got after my brother who has health problems and cant work full time and was like "oh my gosh what is he going to do with his liiiiiiffffeeee?!?!" And she was putting down men who had turned thirty and still didn't know what they were going to do with here "liiiiiffffeeee and refused to date them and then she got married and is a housewife and works in the temple and she told me she and hubby are having financial issues and I told her she could go donate plasma and that could help her out and she kind of told me off and was like "MY hubby thinks its best if I'm a stay at home housewife" and not work HE is the provider! I'm like ok that's nice so you can sit and degrade others for not "working hard enough" but you wont even go watch a movie on a bed for a couple hours a week?

Then I went on vacation once and even had one of my tbm family members start treating me like crap and I just ended up staying in the hotel crying in the shower I couldn't even stand to be around them! And then they came back and lectured me on how one day I was going to come back to the church because I just KNOW its true deep inside and I WILL come back! Then later my mom told me they were treating me bad because I wasn't going to church and I wasn't ambitious enough and wasn't doing enough with my liiiiffffeeee! Seriously so you pick the time when I'm on vacation to harrass me and ruin what was SUPPOSSED to be a good time?! Later they ended up quitting there job because they just didn't feel like working SERIOUSLY

I work harder as a disabled man then i did when i worked 80 hour weeks and you can write that down. Trying to become a healthy and authentic person again has been the hardest thing i have ever done by far. I have to get healthy because there is no bail out for the badass, i have been living off of my own savings for the last five years and now i live off of my own social security. I have to get well and out of severe pain there is no other option for me.

I believe you I also have a disability and work is a lot harder for me because of it. The Mormons who sit there and judge disabled people for not being "ambitious" enough really need to put themselves in that persons shoes before they sit and degrade them so harshly especially if they themselves quit work. The above people I mentioned all KNOW I have a disabilty too so its just oh so kind of them to treat me the way they do I had a lot of vicious rumors go around about at church because of my "lack of ambition" some of them by people that barley even knew me then the people spreading these rumors would sit and cry during lessons and talk about how nice they are! My tbm bro went off one day about me and my brother about how HE is the one with the job in the family and HE is the one who works the hardest and I was like well I have a disability and our brother has health issues and is in pain and you are perfectly healthy were trying our best and you shouldn't put us down and he went off on how some "general authority" gave some amazing talk about someone who couldn't walk and how with faith and prayer they were able too! So its our own "choice" to be sick and disabled I'm like wow that is great! But not everyones situations are that simple. And for all we know that story is made up. The stupid thing is he had an eye surgery and couldn't see well for a short while and was just about the crabbiest person ive ever met during that time! I wanted to say to him "geez" cant ya just CHOOSE to have faith and prayer and shouldn't that help you get better right away?!....geez!

Well i am trying as fast as humanly possible fixing one thing at a time. Just need to figure out my money problem in the meantime. There are a few surgeries on the horizon that i know i need to do. And i just learned i have sleep apnea so i got to start treating that as well. Just barely started vitamin therapy for my restless legs and we will see how that goes. Staying away from mormons and toxic people and that helps big time as well. That is a big one and staying loyal with my counseling as well. I need a miracle as well, just wish i could heal myself.

I want jesus from the bible to back up everything he said in the bible, is that too much to ask? Prove that you can do something, prove that you are legit so i can fully decide to be an athiest completely having the knowledge that there is no god with any healing abilities and move on from all religious things.

Anything you do is more ambitious then a mormon. They do the same f#cking thing every week and might be more disabled then me because of it at this point. The same things they did when i was a kid they do now but they are even worse. All they do is abuse abuse abuse, at church, in the work force, you name it they will see an opportunity to use and abuse you. Why i was born into that nonsense i have no idea, but i know how to survive among the snakes and the wolves and maybe that was the point. Because the world is full of these guys and i am nothing like them. I tried to get out of this world so they could all have it and i could move on but it seems to be destiny for me to be here and actually go on offense. Can't hide so i might as well get better face everybody head on. Even if you flew a kite today you would have accomplished more than a mormon because they don't know how to enjoy sh#t. Then this guy that I was friends with didn't used to be mormon and back I know for a fact he was NOT a "clean and chaste" guy but then he joined the church and I was watching shes the man with him in that movie there's a scene where this guy gets asked to prove hes a guy so he pulls his pants down you don't see anything its just a silly scene and he got SOOOO mad at me and stormed out of my house and gave me a big lecture on how I shouldn't be watching "bad movies" ....ugh and its not like I called op the director and told him "hey can you like have him pull his pants down? Sweet! Thanks! ;) gosh if something offends them fine we can turn it off but for them to get il and storm out of the room and dictate to people what they can watch at there own birthday parties is a little rediculous!

Well ya let them watch Cinderella and pollyanna over and over again and go chant and we can watch some actual VARIETY of movies! And well excuse me I think I'm gonna go out and fly that kite now! :) LOL

I do try to read all that you say, even though you do write a lot for the badass haha.

The other thing about playing Magic the Gathering is that there are places all over the country where people play and a lot of them are just nice family-friendly types of places. If you ever move, you will still have an easy-peasy way to meet people with a common interest.

It's not that popular these days but is a good way to socialize. An old partner and I both "picked up the game" as a way to have fun and party in Mormon Utah.

EricK. also plays the game occasionally. I don't have much experience with on-line tournaments, and for me, they don't include the "social aspect." Too, the quality of play is often abysmal.

It's all about the social aspect and being around actual people. Forcing yourself to interact like the good old days before the internet and cell phones. And it forces you to exercise and use your mind so you don't fall into la la land again like what mormonism is.
