And how can the members really believe God is soooo petty?

I mean Earring, Word of Wisdom, Book Of Mormon Reading, Tatoos, wearing nylons?

I mean while there are tsunamis, currency crises, earthquakes?

Poverty, sickness?

How come they don't have revelations that actually help people?

I got so caught up in we have a prophet and then I was like wait hot minute

ALL their revelations are more about oppressing women... [sorry men]

Then there is the guilt trips...YUCK!

I recall one recent "prophecy" that was handed down was about speakers in sacrament meeting not using visual aids. Then there was another that told members of the bishopbric not to audibly thank the deacons and teachers for passing the sacrament. Now, that is some "cutting edge" revelation right there folks!

Really? NO visual aids?

No wonder church is boring.

It is all designed to make sure no one is paying attention, because if you stop to think about it you will see it is true.

Of course the issue here is to make sure the brethen always come out smelling like roses and petunias!

Yeah, don't thank the young men, but you damn well better stand in awed silence as the G.A.'s make their way to the pulpit to deliver the most speshul, inspirational sermon you will ever hear. If you don't feel the spirit in this speshul man's presence, it's because you are unworthy.

It would also be best if you held your breath for their entire talk because the spirit can be driven away by all that inhaling and exhaling.

But it is increasingly common for GAs to use stills of relevant pictures and other 'visual aids' during their general conference talks. I appreciate that this is edited into the footage we see on screen rather than them holding up a picture, but big difference?

Yep, no visual aids! But wait there's more......... if I remember right don't those speakers in General Conference use visual aids by showing pictures and such on the big screen??? Oh, right, right, they are allowed to do that because they aren't on the lower rung of this hierarchy. What was I thinking! Damnit, get back in line elderborracho how dare you question the general authorities!

Oh yes, sex and garments! If you are looking for a laugh, get on youtube and type in: "Chelsie Hightower talks about the mormons and prop 8."

Yes they are lame, and no they are not prophetic.

It used to drive me crazy even as a TBM that people would come away from sitting in the chapel all weekend watching GC on the satellite and talk about how lucky they were to hear the prophets voice. What did he say? What did they say? Nothing really.

Oh they remind us of our duties and give new hints about how to stay in lockstep, and remind us about this and that and even give somewhat meaningful talks, but it isn't anything you won't hear at Sacrament meeting or Stake conference. The only difference is the setting and the speakers.

IF they were Prophets and IF they gave prophetic counsel to the church, they would have it canonized in the Doctrine and Covenants. That is what the D&C is supposed to be there for- to record and preserve revelation to the church from God.

What ever the membership may construe as "prophetic counsel" is lame because the church is led by administrators with business and communication degrees who instead of saying more, have actually said less and less over the years. They choose the safe road of giving reminders knowing full well that all of their predesessors have been disproven.

What prophesies? The morg hasn't had a qualified prophesy since old Joe died. Not one.

Yea. Even as a TBM I wondered why the prophets never had anything to say and why did it take TEN hours twice a year to say it?

They were claiming that the Salt Lake Winter Olympics was the fulfillment of BY's prophesy that world leaders would be coming to Salt Lake. They left out the part of the prophesy that said they would come to council with Mormon leaders (like that happened). Anything excuse to claim a Mormon prophesy is fulfilled ...

When I hear "mormon" and "prophecies" I think of the old SNL skits of Ed Glosser: Trivial Psychic
