As an old guy, I remember him in “My Mother the Car.” That stupid sitcom basically ruined his career until Coach. Peace and comfort for his family and friends!
Once BYU was considering various entertainers to have perform on campus. One of them was Dick Van Dyke. During the meeting when his name came up, one of the suits objected saying, "Didn't he just go through a divorce?" It was determined that it wasn't Dick van Dyke who had gone through a divorce but his brother Jerry Van Dyke.
Although, I don't believe Dick Van Dyke was finally chosen, Jerry Van Dyke would have been blackballed for having been divorced.

Trivia: Jerry and Dick Van Dyke, Gene Hackman and Donald O'Connor were all raised in Danville, ILLINOIS during the same era. Danville is a struggling midwestern town today but back then it was thriving and many people moved there during the depression for jobs.
