The Mormon funerals I have attended were open casket with the deceased dressed in full temple regalia. In fact, I got to tie the little string from the hat on my father.
My funeral officiator instructed me to put the veil over my mother's face. I adjusted the hat bow, and kissed her goodbye, but did not pull down the veil. My brother closed the casket.
My mother and father were faithful Mormons, and tithe-payers, but they did not go to the temple or wear the garments. My mother had claustrophobia, and the veiling of the faces was intolerable for her.
My grandmother's viewing was nauseating. She hated the LDS church but her son was a TBM. Only thing missing during the viewing was tea and crumpets. When I was asked what I thought, I told my Uncle, Grandma doesn't look good.
