Wow! Header of the site says, "Science, Health, Satire" -- and poor satire at that.
People purposing these laws want to make it so that religious doctors can refuse to take care of LGBT people (which is fucked up). An atheist doctor is not going to refuse to treat people on religious grounds--that's just being stupid.

I thought it'd be clear it was satire. Apparently not.

OK fine, but they could refuse to help because the patient is already seeing a more qualified and higher authority than the Dr. and they should be seeking help from them......and a faithful prayer is cheaper than a Dr. visit, so the Dr. is saving them money :)
It was probably 1997 when my manager approached me with a form. I'm an RN. I had to sign a form stating or waiving my right to refuse to care for women who were patients before, during, or after abortion.
I was active, but not really TBM. I was mad that this was even a choice. What kind of a sh*t person would I be to refuse to care for a patient who needed care?
I think in some states, pharmacists don't have to stock plan B.
It makes refusing to bake a damn cake seem tiny. Imagine if your emergency department MD, the only doc on duty for miles, decides you look a little gay around the edges. You'll think twice about those skinny jeans next time! If there is a next time.
Free society? Surely, you jest. About the only free thing is the love received from our children and pets; nearly every other relationship and transaction is conditional.
Please let me know where I can sign up for this "free society." I'll zip letters off to the IRS and State Revenue Department to let them know I'm no longer participating in their voluntary plans.

Because our history is littered with people making such choices and causing great harm to other people, stomping on the right to "Freedom" of others.
So it's a question of which "restriction" of rights causes the least harm to the individual.
In this case, it's a no-brainer...
The "harm" to the doctor with some religious objection to caring for someone is, at most, a bit of "offense."
Whereas the "harm" to the person seeking medical care could be devastating sickness or death.
Which means restricting the "freedom" of the doctor to be a bigot (no matter what the reason for the bigotry is) is less harmful than restricting the "freedom" of the patient to go to a medical center and be cared for.
The doctor can still, in his personal life, not associate with anybody he chooses not to associate with. He just can't stomp on the rights of others at work.
As a good Christian Dr. I now am legally free to refuse service to LGBT, atheists, Muslims, Hindus, Shintos, Jains, Sikhs, Jews, etc. As a good PROTESTANT Dr. I'm also free to refuse service to Catholics and Mormons. As a good Westboro Baptist Dr. I'm now free to refuse service to servicemen.
