Ha! Thanks for that. I loved George Carlin. When I was in high scholl, we all had Carlin's records and then Richard Pryor's. Pissed the parents off as an added bonus. Did you catch the Westboro douche bag call Carlin an Agnostic and an atheist in the same breath? What a putz.
You can consider yourself Batman, but that doesn't make it so. It's difficult to believe you consider yourself both, if you don't understand the difference.
Not mutually exclusive concepts. I'm atheist because I don't hold a belief in a god. I'm agnostic because I don't believe the existence, or lack of existence, of a god can be established--at least presently. Tough to prove a negative absolutely, but there's not enough evidence in my mind to substantiate a belief in deity.
I don't believe in Zeus or any deity. I'd guess the probability of Zeus existing is nearly zero. For practical purposes, I'd say I'm quite sure Zeus doesn't exist. I'm simply acknowledging that I cannot prove in absolute terms that Zeus doesn't exist.
Then you are agnostic about zeus. What about the rest of the thousands of gods ? Are you agnostic about them also ? And just what does "absolute terms" mean ?
Agnostic about Zeus. Also atheist regarding Zeus. I don't hold a belief in any god. I also don't think I can establish with 100 percent certainty that no god exists.
I use "absolute terms" to mean 100 percent certainty. For practical purposes, my behavior is consistent with a conclusion that Zeus's lack of existence is 100 percent established, but I admit that I cannot prove to 100 percent certainty that Zeus doesn't exist.
The George Carlin bits were funny. The evangelical minister ravings were a snoozefest. Seriously, I skipped those parts. I know they were supposed to serve as the juxtaposition but just so dull.
So, has LDS, Inc. had Carlin proxy washed, anointed, baptized, endowed, sealed, and otherwise sanctified for heaven? If so, he can be saying "Nanner, nanner, nanner". If TSCC hasn't done their proxy rituals on him, he already said, "Nanner, nanner, nanner" before he died as an atheist and I'm guessing that's all he ever wanted/needed to say.
A lot of misunderstandings here... gnostics are not quite the opposite of agnostics. Gnostics are people who think you can merge with or gain union with God(s) not just people who believe in a deity... your gnostic atheist definition is thus way off.
It is the new name. If I give it to you I must suffer my life to be taken by disembowelling myself.
But if asked by a member I will say that the church would identify me a heretic and apostate. Then they inevitably say "no your not". Last time at ward holiday party my TBM DW defended me by explaining where I stood re church. Man I love her.
Have always loved your Reddit name. Mine is decidedly Pagan.
