They may do this to show a semblance of diversity. With all of the pressure the morg's been under lately, I can finally see them cave into putting people of color in the QOT12 to at least have some good media coverage finally.
I am intrigued by the Gong possibility. He has the resume, and they have given him a lot of exposure to the Q15. He'd fit in pretty well. He knows well that as a junior apostle his job would be to smile and do what he's told.
I flew home from Paris last Sunday. Clayton and his wife were seated with me in First Class. He was looking pretty smug. Making eye contact with everyone he could and giving some kind of knowing nod. Such a cult.
Those seats cost $8000 each. Each way. BTW. I wish I was a cult leader and got that perk (I used one of my few yearly upgrades).
I'm betting that with all the air mileage the church pays for, for the missionaries, they rack up a lot of upgrades and free miles... Not that they would hesitate to use tithing money to pamper themselves!
I worked last night at the hotel down the street from COB and the Conference center. There was several couples who came in, all dressed up in suit and tie and I'm not sure they were just there to see conference or not.
There was also a Ford van, 14 passenger that came in with AZ plates. There was 7-8 kids and the parents, each with pillows and duffels etc. The dad looked like one of those late 40's to early 50's guys who would normally have a blue suit/red tie on. I thought he looked like a good candidate for one of those low-level positions, but if you don't mind, I won't be watching to find out.
Well, we all know that women in the church aren’t really considered as important as the men who wear the suits. I think that’s what I meant and that’s why I referred to the suit and tie wearers only. I hope that everyone gets the humor.
The real test will be in 20 years when these two are getting close to ascending to top spot. How will the Mormon base in the US react to a non-white/foreign born leader?
It has been a very eventful week for the big 15:
1.Appearing to concede some ground on the youth interview policy. Although in reality, in my humble opinion, conceding nothing.
2.Appointing an Asian/American and a Brazilian native to the Q12.
white but Brazilian fellow. Nelson wanted to keep Asian as the eventual prophet from happening as long as possible. By the time Gong reached prophethood Chinese members will outnumber USA members - That's because remaining active members in the USA will number about 2,329 and China will have 3,000 members. LOL
