I can recall learning that then-Pres. MacKay taught that the greatest calling in the church is that of home teacher. I believe he said that at the judgment bar, we will be asked, not Priesthood we held, or what office we were called to.... but only how we did at home teaching.

And now even that's gone??

Oh, right. MacKay died. So it's the CURRENT prophet we need to listen to, whoever it is.

"...we believe in the same organization....." What a joke.

Falling membership levels? I guess they just don't have the numbers required anymore.

“Home teaching is one of our most urgent and most rewarding opportunities to nurture and inspire, to counsel and direct our Father’s children. . . . It is a divine service, a divine call. It is our duty as home teachers to carry the divine spirit into every home and heart. To love the work and do our best will bring unbounded peace, joy, and satisfaction to a noble, dedicated teacher of God’s children.”

(David O. McKay, “A Divine Service” [foreword, 1963], quoted in then-LDS Church president Ezra Taft Benson, “To the Home Teachers of the Church,” in “Ensign,” May 1987, p. 49)

It's a weird coincidence that my family harbors a poligamous prophet who looked much like MacKay, hair and all. You might think they were brothers standing side by side.

Well, McKay was also well on board with the Priesthood Ban, believing it was of God...

1963 was a different time.
Back then, church leaders actually believed Mormonism would become the leading world religion.

But that was before DNA was understood and the world wide web became available.

Which, of course, doesn’t make up for the fact that he was a Cold War anti-Commie Skousen-lovin’ wacko, plus a typical anti-Black Mormon bigot.

Study the Restored Gospel every morning with family, before you go to Seminary and study, then study on FHE, then study at Sunday meetings--obviously Home Teaching was need was needed because members were simply not spending enough time studying the Restored Gospel!

Thank God we have a prophet that can reveal the Lord's word and throw a previous prophet that had revealed the Lord's word under the bus.
