Most of it (over 90%) came from Benin/Togo, Cameroon/Congo, and Ivory Coast/Ghana with a small percentage from Western Europe and the Caucasus region.

According to the percentages, it looks like I’m mostly Beninese and Togolese.

Pretty exciting.

Those are VERY American results...West Africa, plus some Western Europe (with the added in Caucasus area, too!).

Congrats!

Thank you!

I was really excited because back in my Family History enthusiast days, I was never able to find anything on my biological family before the late 1800s. Meanwhile, everyone at church were tracking theirs to 1100s France and stuff. So now it’s nice to know I have some history and I can point to an actual country.

That is very exciting. Imagine what we might be able to find out about our ancestry a decade from now. More details, etc...
Congrats!

Thanks! And yeah, I bet this technology will be so sophisticated years from now. We’ll probably be able to narrow it down really far, maybe even to specific, small ethnic groups within a region.

Doing a DNA test is very revealing and informative. Congrats on doing yours.

It's one way to "connect dots." And you may obtain blood relative matches through the DNA registry.

Although I've heard that Ancestry doesn't tell its customers if they have Neanderthal in their DNA, because that doesn't jive with creationism.

I did 23 and Me which does show if someone has Neanderthal traits in their DNA.

This is an important thing to know!

Thank you for this info, Amyjo!

I was really hoping there'd be something about sub-Saharan in my DNA, but there wasn't. Just Neanderthal lol.

It said that's where my freckles may have come from, and my Scottish and Irish ancestors red hair! :)

Does 23 and me show Celt? or just GB?

It shows Irish/British as combined. It doesn't break that down into Welsh or Scottish per se. They're incorporated into the "Irish & British Isles."

I would've liked it to be more specific, but that is as specific as it got.

Does it also show Celt vs other GB results or just GB general?

My results were lumped together ie, Irish/British combined.

From their website, they appear to have a lot better breakdown than the 23 and Me I did.

That's quite awesome InfinityStone!

I did my testing through 23andMe, and details on my background were vague. I know that there's West African, European (I at least know that I'm a combo of Irish, Scandinavian and Iberian - probably the Spanish region as my mother's side has some Spanish surnames) Native American and Southeast Asian. I wish I knew exactly where in some of these regions though.

My great-great (not sure as to how many great's) grandmother was Arawak Indian...natives of the Greater and Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. But I read somewhere that they were originally from South America, but migrated to the Antilles way, way back when. I'm still trying to learn more on that.

I'm glad you're excited to discover your background. :-)

I did 23& me first, and they seem to only cover broad regions, British Isles, Eastern Europe for me. But I already knew that, as that is where my grandparents came from, Poland and Ireland. There were little bits of other things, German, Scandinavian, etc. but they seemed to be far back and small percentages. I have sent in my Ancestry DNA to get more precise information and because I was able to trace some of my Polish ancestors back to the 1700s with their family tree construction and sharing from others. I never thought I could find out any of that. We also found a living 93 year old Aunt of my husband, whom he had not seen since he was a kid. She is mentally and physically well and we hope to visit her in FL. soon. I did not use to care but have gotten fascinated with the whole genealogy thing, and I am a nevermo so did not have that negative feeling about it. I did find out I have some Neanderthal DNA, not surprising.
