Reading the NYT Food section last nite. Big article on Mo'Bettah, a Samoan/Polynesian restaurant chain in SLC. Started by two Samoan brothers who have "always been Mormon."

They struggled mightily to get the restaurant going. (Not as much as Nephi struggled to decide to kill Laban, but nearly.). A daughter finally posted about the restaurant on social media and word spread fast among RMs who had served their missions in Samoa or Polynesia and the like and the business took off gang busters. RMs and their extensive broods descended in droves like crickets on the wheat fields.

All good, BUT, this quote was really something:

Kimo said, "I would go as far as to say: You want to be a successful business person here? You need to join the church."

I wondered how true that is, nowadays.

Anyway, their special sauce is supposed to be dynamite if any of you need a new place to dine.

Nice.
So Utah is a theocracy, in practice if not officially. And businesses that are run by faithful mormons will succeed, while businesses run by non-mormons will be shunned by the hordes of mormon faithful.

I can't think of a better way to attract new businesses to Utah! The state should use this as their recruiting slogan!

"Hey, relocate your business to Utah! Just remember, if you want to be successful here, you have to join the mormon church!"

Hie, don't you mean: "...business that ARE run by faithful mormons will succeed..."?

Here's the link to the story:

Mormon links to restaurant businesses in Utah is unique. Utah has this chain of Hawaiian restaurants, and also has way more Brazilian restaurants than would normally be found in an urban center this size.

I've never been a big fan of Hawaiian food, but love Brazilian churrasco, except for the price tag on all that meat.
