Aside from the hiking and arches, any strange, offbeat sites to see? DEcent places to dine or have a good cup of coffee?

Love Moab. Unfortunately, food is really not a strong point there - been there probably 50 times and not any great meals yet - and a lot of really mediocre ones.

Sights:
Dead Horse Point State Park
Petroglyphs along the Colorado River West of town
Needles District in Canyonlands
Mante Las Sal (sp?) mountain alpine loop East of town
Hole in the Rock (?) south of town - home/restaraunt/store dug into the mountain

I think we'll be mainly cooking, as we are satying in a timeshare with some friends, but I have no doubts we'll need a night off to let someone else do the cooking.

Is that the Mcstiffy (snicker) brewery? I think we'll definitely swing by there!

This is not a major destination, but one of my favorite off beat spots in Moab was the musical playground at Rotary Park.

Had some coffee at Wicked Brew and it was yummy, at least I thought so...

Check out the rock shop N. of town, Ottinger's. Or as we call it, Otnotinger's

(He used to be my neighbor and has collected tons of stuff marginally legal - LOL - also has a dino named after him.)

IS that the place with beaded jewely, cut and uncut rock, and that outside area with all the other rocks?

Don't know about jewelry. It's on the left as you enter town by the Mexican rest (which is good).

Stay away from the Mexican rest. across from Walker's gas - food poisoning.

Make sure you drive the Diamond Dinosaur Pre-historic Parkway.

Was there in March for the Skinny Tire Festival. Some of my favorites:

Tom Tom's Volkswagen museum! I just drove by but it was certainly interesting!

http://www.moabhappenings.com/Archives/historic0912VolkswagonGraveyard.htm

Had a latte and a muffin at The Love Muffin Cafe. Don't forget to buy a Tshirt that says, "Everyone Loves A Hot Muff!"

Reuben sandwich and a beer at The Moab Brewery. Wine tasting at the Castle Creek winery at Red Cliffs Ranch.

The folks working at the local bike stores were a great source of information about the quirky places in the surrounding area.

Hey, are you in Moab yet? I'm in Moab. Check out the river - it' HUGE!!! Flooding and supposed to get worse.

Try the Peace Tree cafe - very good, tho a bit pricey.

Eklectica is great, also - on Main by the tire shop as you come into town. Best coffee is Wicked Brew or Dave's Corner Market.

I would recommend Goblin Valley too. It's my favorite place. 7 dollars to get in, and only an hour or so from Arches. You have to go to Emery County, West of Grand, where Moab is.
