The blaze and evacuations were about 1 1/2 MI away. Fire trucks and earth moving equipment tore through the area for hours, and helicopters and planes took pictures and fought the fire from above.

Last time I heard, it was about 50% contained, but I think it's more than that because there have been no sirens for a couple of hours.

It was a brush fire that they hopefully caught before it hurt anyone. The evacuated people had to flee to a high school across town because the nearby school was at risk.

I appreciate our fire fighters and police. Today they saved property and lives. The air is thick with smoke. I am safe having a glass of wine after dinner.

I am very happy that the fire is being contained, and that you and your house are not part of it, Cheryl!

I know that "Whew!" feeling, and I am glad you are feeling it now.

Glad you're safe!

I see fires in Oregon & Cali, no doubt others in the west;

for those of us with feeble minds...

can U give a general hint where this is?

I hope your air quality is ok. When we had one close a couple of years ago they said it will help if you run your AC or just the fan and spray your filter with a bit of Endust. It will help trap the crap in the air.

I think you earned an extra glass of wine tonight :) !

That must have been scary. Hopefully it will be 100% contained.

That's too close for comfort.

My daughters family are on a knife edge as the huge fire near Strawberry is approaching their mountain top property nearby. It has been their"off the grid" paradise that they have poured everything into.They have moved everything they can but if it goes it will be devastating to them:-)

We used to own some lumber land in that area. Fires are scary and can be so destructive. Good luck to your daughter. Hope all is well with her.

Their's high high desert country with a top of the mountain view that is impressive. Lots of old pinion pine that once burned will take a lifetime to regrow if it ever does. They moved in a beautiful 40ft park model trailer this spring that is about the only thing there insured. They have some other permanent structures there and a solar power installation that my son in law put in himself. We have been in touch with them today and it seems it is all down to wind direction at this point. At the bottom of the mountain are one or two homes where people live permanently, one a family that derives summer income from deliveries of water to the property owners' water tanks. I am sure this will be devastating to them And all started apparently by a careless person.

We were in the middle of the Thomas Fire (it started a mile away) and fire does things you never expect, most of them bad. One of the bad things was that many people had 1,000 gallon water tanks--they were plastic, and melted before they could be of any use.

I'm in the East Bay too, though thankfully nowhere near the fires. I hope you and your neighbors will be okay Cheryl. (One of my elderly relatives lost her home in the Napa/Sonoma fires last year, sadly.)
