Here I was under the impression it was a Mormon hymn, based on how frequently we sang it as children in Sunday School and Primary.

It isn't. It was written by a Methodist poet/songwriter, Fanny Crosby. "Frances Janes Van Alstyne Crosby (March 24 1820 – February 12 1915), usually known as Fanny Crosby, was an American lyricist most famous for her Protestant Christian hymns. A lifelong Methodist, she was one of the most prolific hymnists in history, writing over 8,000 despite being blind from shortly after birth." (wikiquote.)

It was always a favorite of mine as a child. Now it's easier to see why. :)

We sang it so much when we were young, but when I taught primary (for years), they never sang it. I wonder if it is in the most recent children's song book.

We also used to sing "I have a little gospel light" which is no longer sung. It was in the movie "Corinna, Corinna" or a version of it.

Oh, bummer.

Wonder why it was removed? Maybe because the author wasn't Mormon enough? Ha!

Trying to remember the other one "I have a little gospel light," but cannot.

We did "Where Love is, there God is also," it came out when I was in like 5th or 6th grade. So I got to play a violin duet with a classmate while the children sang in the kids choir.

The other one that came out around the same time was "As I have loved you, love one another." Again, violin duet with that one too. :)

The woman who wrote that song gave up her legal rights and royalties to the song to the Mormon church, which proceeded to copyright it.

"Praise to the Man" is sung to the music of the song, "Scotland the Brave." There are probably many other examples of borrowed music.
