I was surfing a Facebook page and a person was looking for free toys for the LDS evangelical church.

Just the name has my mind confused. Seems like an oxymoron. If I do a search for the church it goes to LDS.org.

Only #5 would seem to apply to mormons:

"...marked by militant or crusading zeal..."

Try and decipher that!

Could it be that she's trying to appeal to some evangelical friends or acquaintances?

Evangelical is the new "in" word here in America, now that ministering TV has become such a big business in the last 20 years after Billy Graham got it started.

Isn't everyone in the South calling themselves Evangelicals now? It use to be Baptist and Born Agains. Even Big-Don-the-Man! is bowing the head and praying with these religious folks,

At first I thought it was a new branch like church of Christ, but now I am totally confused. Maybe it is about jello and funeral potatoes.

The LDS certainly are evangelical, and we also have many churches in CA that incorporate "evangelical" into their names, but this is the first I've heard of any branch of the LDS church that uses the word in its offocial title. Who the hell knows?

I'm wondering if they added that to sound more like other groups who do that sort of thing.

Maybe this is just another sign of how they try to blend in with other evangelicals. They seem to be making an attempt to appear mainstream as a subset of evangelicals, which they actually are, IMO.

Maybe they know if some people see the word "evangelical" they will donate things.

Like when they "Mormsplain" that a ward is like a parish, a stake is like a diocese, and a bishop is a lay pastor.
