The olden days, in my case, are when I joined up to be Mormon. The leaders would proclaim they had arrived to bring truth to the whole earth.

I just watched a video of Bednar somewhere in Asia telling the members several times that he had come for them. No mention of his responsibility to the non-Mormons even though he is God's specially appointed messenger and witness. He's exclusively there for the already indoctrinated.

Do you think LDS elite have given up on "The world is ripe and ready to harvest" theme? Or are they just dumping all the responsibility on the missionaries and hanging them out to take the abuse of not getting the job done? Your opinion please.

He was there for the insufficiently indoctrinated. Retention
is their problem now.

Yes, they've given up. They aren't putting it on the
missionaries' shoulders. The missionaries are out there as
part of a cult-indoctrination ritual. The main point of
missions is no longer to get converts, but to indoctrinate
missionaries into loyalty to the cult.

...or, it could be that they just need more member/volunteers to clean abandoned chapels until they can be sold off to the highest bidders.

I can't be the only old timey RM who was stunned to hear that today's elders and sisters now spend time on 'less actives'! And trying to 'do service'!!

I take these two innovations as an admission that for absolutely sure, the field is no long white, already to harvest...

Add me to the idea that they have given up on "the field is white..." mantra.

I think they're trying to hold onto to what they have. Naturally, they're failing miserably to retain the youth.
