Popped open the Ensign subscription that someone else bought for me.

I was flipping through the pages and saw an article about what tithing money is spent on.

https://www.lds.org/ensign/2018/10/where-tithing-money-goes?lang=eng

Why bother with the article? if you really wanted people to know where the tithing money is going, there is an easy way to do that...

release the financials!

Other churches do it. Guess The-Church-formerly-known-as-Mormon is too big to have to be accountable?

“At Church headquarters, the First Presidency, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and Presiding Bishopric are the Council on the Disposition of the Tithes (see Doctrine and Covenants 120). As directed by the Lord, they make inspired decisions on how these sacred tithing funds will be used.”

How inspired is a den of thieves?

The morg's typical canned reasons!!

Constructing and maintaining temples, churches, and other Church-owned buildings

Operating Church-education programs

Printing scriptures and other materials

Doing family history research

Providing welfare and humanitarian efforts

Doing missionary work

Providing Church activities for fellowshipping among ward or branch members

I've been saying it for a long time now, but the numbers really don't add up. In most mainstream Christian churches, the average donation per family per year is between 2-3%. For Catholics, it may be even lower than that. And roughly half of the budget of these churches goes toward having a paid ministry and staff.

The Mormon church, with no paid ministry at the local level, demands 10% from its members. Let's say that half of the active members pay up, for an average of 5% (which is a figure that I saw somewhere once.) Where is all of the money going? Yes, some of it goes to temples, and some to missions (with young missionaries chipping in a reasonable amount, and older missionaries paying their own way.) Some goes to BYU. I still think it doesn't account for the vast sums that the church takes in each year in tithing.

I truly wish that the U.S. had laws in place that required all charities and churches to disclose their financials in detail. The Mormon church takes in huge amounts of money, and generates even more in investment income, with little to no accountability for it.

But the members pay for most of that stuff out of their own pockets.

So, where does the big money really go ???

Deceptive old creeps.

With TBMs, it's a matter of Trust, so No Need to know let alone verify.

When they don't have trust, they don't have nothin'

No paid clergy (except at top), no paid janitors as far as I know. Yet they grab all that money, and you're not exempt even if your kids are sick or starving. Why do the members keep putting up with this? Where is common sense?
