Between June 1st and today I have lost 88 pounds. I can’t wait for warm weather so I can show off my porn shoulders, and a goodly bit of leg in the new clothes I will be wearing.
I used the keto diet to get started, now I follow a basic 1600 calorie diet.
Keto has pros and cons, but after I lost the first 20 pounds quickly it inspired me to change my eating habits and felt good enough to start walking for exercise.
Interesting! I'm going to do a keto and intermittent fasting combo. I have about 90 pounds to lose, but I'd be happy with 60. I gained an extra 30 pounds when making my exit from the cult, and was so heartbroken and turned to food for comfort. It feels like I gave my Momo neighbors another reason to say that I'm doing worse without the gospel. They expect it!
I'm 61 years old now and feel like this weight is killing me. I just want to be healthier and don't care about being thin. I really think that keto is the way to go, since I've lost weight that way before.
Thanks for the inspiration. 2019 will be my year! Hope springs eternal, and the best revenge is living well.
Great job to those here who have recently lost a lot of weight. I started the keto diet last August, and have lost 65 lbs since then. I started at 263 lbs and now weigh only 198 lbs. As a result, my A1C went from the low end of the diabetic range to the middle of the normal range by mid-October. I recently started feeling weak and near-fainting and realized that my blood pressure medication had just recently lowered my BP to an average of 101/58. The fix was easy: quit taking that BP medication that I needed as an obese person but that I no longer need now. Without any BP medication now, my BP hovers at around 120/80 consistantly. Yesterday, I gathered up my old clothes in to hefty bags (nearly my whole wardrobe except for the recently purchased clothes and some very old clothes I've had for over twenty years), and I plan to donate them all to the Goodwill this coming week.
I went from a 48" waist to a comfortable 36" waist now. I put on one of the suits that I wore on my mission (35 years ago), and then threw them all in to those hefty bags even though they fit well now, because I don't want to look like a missionary now. I plan to keep losing weight until I hit 173 lbs and/or can comfortably wear a 34" waist pants again. That will take me back to what I weighed as a softmore in highschool. To get there, I have another 25 lbs left to go. I plan to be there in late february. When I hit 173 lbs, that'll be 90 lbs of weight lost, probably over a seven month time period at the rate I am going now. That is where I plan to stop losing weight.
When I left the church more than 28 years ago, I was severely depressed and gained a lot of weight that is just now coming off for the first time since then (with credit due in large part to my recovery gained from this board). Losing 65 lbs is like getting younger again now. It wasn't old age that was killing me. It was the poor diet and over eating that was killing me. After I lose another ten pounds, I will be in the 'normal weight' category again after leaving the obesity behind more than twenty lost pounds (two months) ago.
The keto diet is easy. If you eat correctly, you can eat less than half of your recommended daily calorie intake for months on-end, and still be healthy and not get hungry. To do that, cut out almost all carbohydrates. You won't need them and they just make you more hungry when you eat them. Carbohydrates give you your daily energy but your body can live just as well on energy from ketones created by your body from excess body fat also, instead. Keep the protine and fat intake where it should be and get rid of all carbohydrates except for 30 to 50 grams of carbohydrates per day. That should leave you with around half of the recommended calories per day that you would otherwise use to just maintain your current weight. After a short adjustment period, you won't even get hungry doing that for months on-end. I had my doctor do a lot of blood testing to make sure I was getting enough nutritionally during this time, and tracked my food intake using an Android app. I could eat the way I eat now for the rest of my life if necessary and not feel too deprived. Anyone can do this if you give it at least a hobby-level of study and practice, and have enough patience to wait months for the weight to come off.

!!!! IF YOUR DOC APPROVES !!!
To pretty-ize your legs even more, get an elliptical machine. I had no idea it would do so much good. The gym doesn't appeal to me, so I bought my own and parked it between the TV and the ice box. Only two minutes at a time, four times a day. (In my 60s.)
I saw an ad that read, "EXERCISE EQUIPMENT--USED ONCE BY MISTAKE!" and picked up a perfect one for $50.
