I had my former Bishop come by my house to ask me why I left after I resigned. I explained the main problems I had with mormon racisn, sexism, homophobia, lies, abuse. And he said,"It sounds like you have been reading anti-Mormon literature."
I said,"What do you consider anti Mormon literature?"
He said,"Anything not sympathetic with the official version of Mormon doctrine."
I said,"Like the original version of the first vision?"
He said,"Well they are all essentially the same."
I shook my head "Nope."
He asked,"Theyre not?"
I answered,"No. The first version only mentions,'the Lord', singular, not plural. Huge difference."
He was completely oblivious to this info and told me we'd have to agree to disagree.
So apparently the only version of the First Vision written in Josephs own hand, is anti Mormon, since it contradicts the heavily edited official (4th) version, written, under duress, 18yrs after the fact after every one of the witnesses left the church.

Seems like associating your reasons for leaving with "anti-Mormon" literature, is their way of dismissing your reasons and never having to reconcile their cherished beliefs they inherited from Mommy and Daddy.

Yes, having been raised in an LDS home, and attending church faithfully all my years of believing, it took absolute torture from corrupt church leaders to eventually persuade me to look at a book that was at the public library and read a version of church history that was not officially published by the church.
I had been so indoctrinated never to read anything the church had not published, that looking at some other source for information on church history was just abhorrent to me. Took me a long time to get up the courage to look.

When you have faith, facts don't matter.

That is the core Doctrine of L-d$,inc.

Come on guys-your are not "doubting your doubts" as you were instructed by the inspired leaders.

Deciding to follow the evidence to its logical conclusion is what led me to conclude,"It's a fraud."

For me, the most powerful anti-Mormon piece of literature is the Book of Mormon.

The TBM's in our lives will never see what we see Koriwhore because they aren't open to questioning it. They will only see it when they experience something that creates a little doubt and a need to question it.

It requires something to open their hearts and minds to consider that they may be wrong and genuinely question their current assumptions of belief. They have to read the "whole" history of the church including all the things the church has not told them and find out if those things are true or not. Only then will they join us and some not even after they know.

Sometimes I still wish I had these kind of encounters JUST for the sport of it...

The ironic thing is my former Bishop is also my (then)wife's OB/Gyn, who delivered 3/4 of our kids. He isn't stupid, just completely convinced the whole of human existence revolves around and hinges upon the Joseph's Myth.
