Just another colossal waste of tithing funds! This will do nothing to stop the European Mormon Church from shrinking into oblivion. The majority of the patrons visiting this temple will be North American TBM's touring Europe.

This building is so overly ornate that it looks gaudy. Just the chandlers alone must have cost a fortune.

So, why does this one get special treatment? Are they just trying to show off in front of the Catholics? I doubt they’d be so enthusiastic about incorporating local culture and architecture into the Zimbabwe Temple. This is OTT.

If they are, then they fail. To begin with, in the great tradition of the Zoetermeer temple named after The Hague and the Preston temple which is not in Preston either, this temple is on the unfashionable side of town, where factories used to be, next to a ring road. Meanwhile, the catholics have more magnificent basilicas and churches downtown than TSCC has in all of Utah.

I think it's a substitute destination for rich members. Instead of wasting time at Catholic chapels, they can waste it on a session or two.

The heads on the figures in the stained glass window seem off. The faces are very lifelike - almost like photographs, while the clothing is more like a mosaic.

I wonder if the faces are of prominent people in the Mormon church, or friends of the artist. They look very modern.

FINALLY...they did right by the Italians!!!

"The temple’s 15-acre campus includes a church meetinghouse, a visitors’ center, a family history center, a pizzeria and guest housing."

Or so it seems to me...

Fancy buildings are a priority for many religions.

Just imagine what the world would be like if those resources (that we have to subsidize) were used for actual charity, science and managing our planet.

Apparently the gods they created need rituals and lots of fancy shiny objects.

“It is beautiful,” church apostle David A. Bednar said in a news release. “The craftsmanship is expert and perfect.”

Now, hold on there Davey Wavey--isn't your whole schtick charging your members for the perfection in the next life you say is unattainable anywhere on this fallen, telestial world?

Also, your giant phalluses come off like cheap knock-offs of classical architecture. It's all the more glaring in Rome given that you can see the real thing just a few miles away.

ETA: And, how in the hell would he know what "perfect" craftsmanship looks like anyway? Is he a trained architect or stonemason? He thinks, as Mormons do, that a shiny facade means the building is sound. St. Peter's has stood for 500 years, the Pantheon for nearly 2,000; who here thinks this temple will still be standing in 2518, let alone 4018?
