Our 70+ year old Sunday school teacher explained that church leadership told youth in his generation that they were the most choice and select generation of all time.

Yep. They still tell kids that today.

Nothing manipulative going on here....

I was a Saturday’s Warrior generation youth. The pressure was intense. Can’t imagine that pressure combined with social media.

Ya I remember the 80s and 90s it was the saturday evening of time. We were the chosen generation, the one where all the previous generations would hush as we entered and bow in our presence. We were so special!

Of course it was never coherently explained just what we did that was so great with the exception of withstand pornography as teenagers, lol! Because it didn't exist in previous times, supposedly.

Print and photo pornography has existed for a long time.

True, but nothing like today’s.

There is nothing new under the sun.
Mankind has engaged in and displayed all types of sex for aeons even if just painted on rocks.
Oral sex, beastiality, hetero and homosexual sex. When print was invented, then porn on paper was the thing.

are not getting that "you're special mighty warrior spirits who were reserved for the last days" appeal to vanity anymore.

I may be wrong, but from what I've seen from the outside in the past several years, they've really sidelined the whole "last days" and the "end is nigh" schtick.

Whereas most of the past Top Prophet Guys often emphasized the notion that the second coming and great winding up was right around the corner, the last three guys have rarely mentioned it. Nelson is all about vitamins and de-Mormonizing and getting back to Jesus and gives no indication that he's expecting any big appearance by Jesus in the flesh anytime soon.

Not too long ago, the LSD Church changed the official name in several Asian countries so that the relevant Chinese characters would refer to "later period" (i.e. anything that came after Jesus died) instead of "last days".

The ever-shifting, unchanging Gospel that is constantly changing and spinning. Isn't wunnerful? Isn't it amaayzing brothers and sisters?

It seems like most of the people who talk about "end times" and "most valiant generation" are people who grew up before 1980. Maybe they never got the updated memo about dropping this approach.

Maybe it was us (the chosen ones) and we just blew it by looking at the internet.

I spoke to an old man who was visiting the Ward, and within a 2-minute casual conversation he fixed me with his beady eye and started talking about 'the end' coming.

Brainwashed!

and the speaker said that the prophesy was that the 4th and 5th generation would be the ones who would fall away. I remember distinctly telling myself I'd prove them wrong.

Here I am. I guess I didn't live up to my salvation.

Oh the things we learned that were so manipulative and horrible. When I went to a funeral in November in a mormon church, the first ttime I'd been to a mormon church in a long time, oh the feeling of "what the hell was I thinking?"

I am going to wait outside the temple (and maybe babysitting kids in the temple) on Saturday. I'm having PTSD issues.

I still think "What was I thinking?" every single time I go.

This is for the wedding? Good luck and stay outside!

And, I didn't know they had funerals in Mormon churches...here they don't--strange.

Anyone who grew up in a family with food storage, and realized that a savings account was a much better investment, knows that the TSCC is full of crap.
The leadership has to realize that it is all a fraud... they are constantly trying new gimmick programs to keep people busy.

Funny all the year I was in no one ever mentioned food storage to me. Maybe they just don't do it here?

I think it's a dead prinicple that most members would rather forget.

I think part of the reason that the church has restructured their Sunday services is because the leaders believe that Gen X and Millennial generation have failed to properly teach the gospel values to their children. Just think of the parents that have been supporting their gay children and putting their foot down to youth interviews. I think that's in part why they have mandated a church re-education program in the home.

Eventually, the dum-dums (like me) figure out that highest baptizing elders were NOT spiritual giants. Rather they were the slickest snake oil salesmen organizing youth basketball leagues. Faked obedience and brown nosing was rewarded and people that worked super hard to be super spiritual got NOWHERE. The promised blessings were never delivered.
