I know that we have a lot of active military and veterans on this board. I found this story particularly touching --

"A 95-year-old World War II veteran died during a flight to San Diego on Monday evening, returning from an "Honor Flight" to Washington, D.C., to visit the WW II Memorial, the organization arranging the trip confirmed. Frank Manchel was completing a trip arranged by Honor Flight San Diego – a group that provides veterans with all-expense-paid trips to visit war memorials in the nation's capital." Manchel was accompanied in Washington, D.C. by his two sons and his 93 year-old brother.

"According to Honor Flight San Diego, after Manchel passed away during the flight, his body was draped in the American flag that the group had carried with them to Washington while two chaplains on board prayed for him. Shelly Zimmerman, a retired San Diego police chief who was on the flight, ensured the group followed protocol once the flight landed in San Diego with medical personnel, firefighters, and law enforcement saluting Manchel as paramedics escorted his body to the tarmac."

It has been *my* honor to see veterans visiting their respective memorials in the nation's capital, many for the first time. The memorials are a place of peace and healing for them. I am so happy for Mr. Manchel and his family that he was able to come full circle and share that time with his loved ones.

Thank you. You're right, that is touching. I would have missed it without your help.

That’s a touching, feel good story. I’m glad that he got to at least see the memorial before he passed, instead of passing before. Maybe he sensed he had no time left and wanted to pay his final respects. I like the way they had everything in place to honour him during flight and after. My dad had a military funeral. They’re very special and touching.
