The Lord's anointed spoke two great quotes during the inspired Dedication of the Rome Temple in Italy a hundred days ago.

Ironically, both men whose quotes comforted all in attendance came from two hypocrites afflicted with sexual deviancy.

QUESTION: Why did an inspired servant of God use these two derelicts as examples of greatness during such a solemn occasion?

It has become a well-documented fact that both Joseph Smith and Gandhi would be imprisoned for life, had they lived today.

Can you explain the reverence for such detestable men?

Gandhi made some very off color remarks about the Jews. One of them was along the lines of how if the European Jews had tried non-violent methods, the Holocaust would have been averted and the other was that it was karma due to claiming to be the Chosen People.

I forget where I heard this, but there was one woman who said the Mahatma used to dip his bald head in oil and rub it all over her body.

Some useful info here. Some young people think Gandhi's non-violent ideas are effective

https://www.thecrimson.com/article/1983/3/7/the-truth-about-gandhi-pbtbhe-movie/

On the question of nonviolence, the film presented only a to brief lines on Gandhi's view of nonviolence as a response to Hitler's Germany. In real life, Gandhi wrote to the Viceroy of India as Britain fell back before Nazi might: "This manslaughter must be stopped. You are losing; if you persist, it will only result in greater bloodshed. Hitler is not a bad man..." He also addressed a letter to the British people as a whole, counseling them to "Let them [the Nazis] take possession of your beautiful island with your many beautiful buildings. You will give all these, but neither your soul, nor your mind."

* Finally, says Grenier, in 1941 (with Hitler in full control of Europe and America's Pacific feel at the bottom of Pearl Harbor) Gandhi "addressed an open letter to the prince of darkness himself, Adolf Hitler...'Dear Friend,' the letter begins and proceeds to a heartfelt appeal to the Führer to embrace all mankind irrespective of race, color, or creed.' Surprisingly, it is not known to have had any deep impact on Hitler."

You'll probably get some pushback, but I like the simplicity of your comparison and would be happy to leave it at that.

One can actually do both simultaneously. There is ample evidence Gandhi did both - some of his ideas were ludicrous (see the links) - and I believe modern India's more successful aspects are down to the likes of Nehru etc.

Naturally, but this isn't a recovering from Gandhi bored any more than it is a recovering an old chair board.

I don't care about Gandhi.
Nor about Joseph Smith...

There you go.

It is a valid comparison. Gandhi is a quasi-religious figure with serious flaws. His sexual behavior is more creeepy than Smith's.
