I just ran across a reference by somebody that this is the second to last year of the Hill Cumorah Pagent (the last being 2020). This was announced last October, but didn't make a splash big enough for me to notice.

Any insiders' views on why? I can certainly speculate any number of reasons for dropping it; shifting focus away from a proven fraud of history being a big one, finances being another. Or is it another step in moving away from being "Mormon"?

I'm guessing they don't want to draw attention to digging up plates as part of their gradual deemphasis of the BoM. As they strive to look more like mainstream Christians, that is one thing that needs to go into the historical dustbins.

They have stopped all the pageants. This was the last year for the Manti pageant. I suspect tscc doesn't want to spend any more money on a losing proposition.

Also Kaput: the biannual one in Clarkston, Cache County, Utah, "The Man Who Knew," about Martin Harris.

Is he the one who swore to the golden plates, then recanted, but later came back to the LDS fold, saying, he saw them with "spiritual eyes?"

I knew the people who wrote the original script for this. I suggested "Martin Harris - The Man Who Kept Changing His Mind, but nobody liked it.

I wonder what they'll do with the seating and stage.

He is very much out of the church.

My SIL thought that the way to save her son after he had been rebelling in high school was to send him to participate in the HCP for his graduation gift. He actually did go, but she had to fish his cigarettes out of his luggage just before he left. He's over 40 and still isn't active mormon.

I wonder if they're going to discontinue the Easter Pagent at the Mesa mormon temple.

There is a website dedicated to all things MoTemple related and in it it says that the grounds are going to be redesigned to "better accommodate the easter pageant", but I thought that TSCC announced that ALL pageants were going to be discontinued.

I looked it up, but I've forgotten the details.

There were seven regular (but not all yearly) pageants, of which four will be ended. Mesa's pageant will continue, but won't start up again until the Mesa temple renovation is completed.

One of the other three is a pageant in England

Still amazed my folks drove 2300 miles there to see it in the early 1970's.

Cardston tried elbowing its way into the 'pageant scene' years ago. I have pictures I took at one. It never lasted long, only a few 'episodes', then it was gone. It was done on the south lawn of the temple.

Speaking of south of the temple, there's a white cement bench along the sidewalk that has 'I Love To See The Temple' etched on the front in black. It's just cheesy and tacky.

I would expect no less than cheesy and tacky from Cardston!

Wow! I attended many pageants during my TBM days. Some possible reasons for the terminations

1. Pageants showed VERY SANITIZED versions of complicated issues
2. Pageants provide nice venues for protesters
3. Pageant content makes the church seem like a cult in the eyes of non-members

Church reasons for the demise

1. Pageants are expensive and the money could be used elsewhere
2. We don’t want outsiders to see the disconnect with pageant misinformation
3. There’s been too much going on in the bushes when the lights have been dimmed

It all boils down to cost versus benefit.
When the benefit derived forom the project is continually less than the cost of the project then the project must logically be abandoned

^^^^I was told this by a very TBM who rubs elbows with the GA's

Here is a window into their thinking. They’ve stopped believing the BoM myth. The emperors are making a connection to the breeze they feel on their junk.
