Is yours an "inner" or an "outer"? (Mine is an inner.) Do belly buttons prove your are human--instead of being a fake human, i.e., someone from outer space?
it is of note that I learned why some people have outer. One of my children had a little tiny umbilical hernia from something to do with the umbilical cord. From what the doctor told me, this is a "defect." The child doesn't have a big outer one--more abdominal wall level, but it isn't inner like most people.
Outies do occur with herniated navels, but not all outies are as a result of navel hernias. The primary factor in determining whether an individual will have an innie or an outie is simply how the scar tissue forms, and it seems to be a matter of chance, though genetics may possibly play a role in how one heals. It's a popular perception that an outward-projecting umbilicus happens when the cord is not cut close, leaving extra cord. Such, however, actually has no bearing on a baby's odds of developing either an innie or an outie.
One of my wife's most traumatic pregnancy moments with both children was when her innie became an outie.
My cousin's kid had an umbilical hernia with an outie that looked almost like a second penis.
