I bet ghawd has a fervor meter that checks incoming prayers, and if a prayer doesn't meet a certain fervency level, it doesn't reach his ears. Prayers of lower fervency level are heard by Joseph Smith, Mother Theresa, Cardinal Lou Ferrigno or Mamie Eisenhower, etc.
We mere mortals can't really judge fervor; all we can do is award style points.
Yeah. I suspect Jackie Kennedy made such a splash with the public primarily because she followed Mamie Eisenhower. That being said, I would gladly take a return to tacky as opposed to everything and everyone currently residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

You're right as usual. Though the present first lady is among the less tacky members the present First Family, that alone does not say much, as tackiness, as are so many other qualities, is relative. Roseanne Roseannadanna would have been low on the tackiness continuum as measured against the members of the first family, either collectively or individually.

I consider mute, passive compliance amounting to tacit acceptance of the most offensively conspicuous, overtly tacky acts, to be a form of tackiness in it's own right.
I used to think that if I prayed as long as whoever it was in the BofM maybe he'd become straight. I've talked to many gays who say they spent a lot of time on their knees.
I hate it when I see posts on fb or somebody on TV says something about prayers are answered or God can fix everything. I really hate it when people say things happen for a reason.
It is just being a mormon and back in 1983, they had all the wrong answers for any of us who went to them for help.
It is too bad that gays are still having to figure it out all these years later. Back then, nobody talked about it out loud--I had nobody to go to but the leaders and my boyfriend.

Worked for me. I prayed like a Boss and left the church.
Been scanning this topic for the duration and finally decided to add my two bits. FYI, many of my comments seems to kill the discussion in it's tracks.
I like to fly fish for trout. I've found fly fishing and praying for something has about the same results.
Sometimes I pray and seem to get answers soon and a high percentage of the time. Most of the time my prayers don't get answered.
Last week I week I went fishing, I caught 5 fish on the first 10 casts. Spent about 2 hours fishing and caught about 25 fish. I believe in catch and release.
Last Saturday went fishing again, took 4-1/2 hours to catch two fish. Same creek, same weather, same flys.
Sometimes your prayers are answered and sometime you catch fish.
Pray frequently and for everything (the key to successful prayer)... don't pray to long or fervently about anything... your odds go down and time is wasted... example... I prayed 50 times already today about stuff and expect at least two of those to be answered... you gotta keep the game real!
Grab the prayer roll. I thought it was more important HOW MANY you can get to pray for what you want like a popularity contest. Apparently God listens more if there are a lot of people trying to persuade Him about something.
