Article in the Salt Lake Tribune: "LDS mission president dies in the Philippines." He was over the Philippines Naga Mission and had suffered a stroke at home there and was taken to the hospital where he passed away. He had only been serving there since July. The article says that he died doing what he loved-serving the Lord. IMO, he wasn't serving the Lord; he was serving a business. He should have been home enjoying his family and grandchildren.
So, I have a question: When someone, either a missionary or, in, this case, a mission president dies while on the mission, does TSCC help with funeral expenses or life insurance?

I think they help with minimal burial costs, but I think the church requires them to buy life insurance or provide their own.

I just want to tip my bonnet to you, VQ, for the excellent allusion.

Willy Loman might feel insulted, but the comparison is apt.

"Serving the Lord" "Performing his calling" "On a mission"

Cult salesman is right.

The pretentious terminology that they use to describe their program of selling nonsense to gullible people is no more ridiculous than using expressions like "master chef", "expert on American cuisine" and "selflessly feeding the hungry" to refer to the occupation of a teen-aged part-timer at Burger King.

I would expect that LDS Inc would pay return transportation for the deceased and family. Beyond that, I doubt they would cover expenses. My guess is MPs are expected to keep whatever life insurance they had before their mission call,

I can hear the claims that he is serving a mission in Paradise. Makes me want to bang my head on the table.

Whatever we think of his religion, we should at least be respectful.

That said, he was lucky not to have a paralyzing stroke and be left like that for years.
