Most of these changes appear to be minor and not particularly helpful for the interviewee. I don't have a lot of insights as it's been many years since I sat for one of these.

Also notice the photo accompanying the article. It seems lately the church p.r. team has gone overboard to show how "diverse" the church is. The photo shows an attractive young black woman sitting for an interview with (presumably) her bishop, a balding old white guy. The creep factor is just too much.

Not to mention the 500 pound elephant in the room, i.e. why only old white guys qualified to be bishops? Is it appropriate for this man to be asking intimate questions of this young lady? Ah but let's not "go there."

The interview questions for temple recommends are below. Verbiage in 11 questions has been modified.

Do you have faith in and a testimony of God, the Eternal Father; His Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost?

Do you have a testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and of His role as your Savior and Redeemer?

Do you have a testimony of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Do you sustain the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the prophet, seer, and revelator and as the only person on the earth authorized to exercise all priesthood keys?

Do you sustain the members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators?

Do you sustain the other General Authorities and local leaders of the Church?

The Lord has said that all things are to be “done in cleanliness” before Him (Doctrine and Covenants 42:41).

Do you strive for moral cleanliness in your thoughts and behavior?

Do you obey the law of chastity?

Do you follow the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ in your private and public behavior with members of your family and others?

Do you support or promote any teachings, practices, or doctrine contrary to those of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Do you strive to keep the Sabbath day holy, both at home and at church; attend your meetings; prepare for and worthily partake of the sacrament; and live your life in harmony with the laws and commandments of the gospel?

Do you strive to be honest in all that you do?

Are you a full-tithe payer?

Do you understand and obey the Word of Wisdom?

Do you have any financial or other obligations to a former spouse or to children?

If yes, are you current in meeting those obligations?

Do you keep the covenants that you made in the temple, including wearing the temple garment as instructed in the endowment?

Are there serious sins in your life that need to be resolved with priesthood authorities as part of your repentance?

Do you consider yourself worthy to enter the Lord’s house and participate in temple ordinances?

Church leaders will begin using these questions immediately. A letter from the First Presidency with further instruction will be sent to Church leaders worldwide on Monday.

President Nelson reminded Saints on Sunday that the coming open houses for temples currently under construction in their areas will be an important opportunity to educate their local communities about the what and the why of worship in temples.

Gone are the questions I remember from the 90's. Questions like: Do you have any affiliation or sympathy for apostate groups? Do you associate with any apostates or ex mormons?

Yeah, does this mean that Mormons can finally stop shunning us apostates, now?


Soon, my Mormon friends and neighbors will call me to see how I'm doing, and how my children are doing. They will wave and say "Hello Exminion! How are you doin'!" when I see them across the street, or when they walk past my house, and I'm in the front garden. They will greet me in the grocery store, and stop to chat a few seconds. They will sit by me at the children's games. I will get Christmas cards, and cookies, and they will remember my birthday, and they will write the correct name on the cards. They will invite me to the Tupperware parties, and the modest-lingerie parties, and the MLM presentations, in their homes. They will invite me out for ice cream, or to go shopping, or to take the grandchildren to the park, or out to lunch, or to a movie. They will invite me to their Christmas parties, and I won't even have to play the piano or bring a casserole that serves 10.

I will hold my breath, and wait for my phone to ring.

I have to wonder how the top leadership would respond if they saw your reply. Would they get it, or would they assign blame to you?

So, a good-faith effort for all of the above is sufficient. I guess, "Be ye therefore perfect" has gone by the wayside, except for:

"Are you a full-tithe payer?"

That's it, black-or-white, no gray area. No, "Do you strive to pay your tithe?"

Conflicting requirements:

Do you have a testimony of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Do you strive to be honest in all that you do?

My most serious sin was joining your cult. I don’t need priesthood authorities for that, but I’m available to help with their repentance process.

It used to be ' Are you honest...?'

Now, 'striving to be honest' is sufficient'

Are you a full-tithe payer?

Yup. That is the REAL question. The other questions are merely distractions.

changes? I've watched 2 of the channels now and they said they were going to talk about the changes and then gave the same statement they did before saying there are changes.

Really, this is what they've been working on? There isn't anything more important to focus on?

As a member I had no problem with the interview questions and was temple worthy for many years.
I had an experience in a temple one time,which I won't add to this,safe to say it gave me food for thought about the Church,I researched for 18 months about the church and was finding it so hard to stay,the decision was taken from me by Bishop at a recommend interview.
I had known this man for 35 years,worked with his wife,had dinner with them and our children socialised,I digress,at this interview he asked me if I masturbated,I was shocked,I'm no prude but coming from a friend of many years and both being in our late 50's I could not understand why he would do that,its not in the recommend questions either,was so disappointed but glad in one way as it was the last straw for me.

That question was out of line. It never was part of the temple recommend questions I asked.

The bishop I served under told me he never went there unless someone brought it up. He said the most important thing was to be an example to the youth and not to interrogate them. He had a bishop as a youth who was an interrogator and he was not going to be that guy.

But it was his job to ask you highly inappropriate questions.

I'm glad he did but wow, that there is a story.

The Mormon bishops should keep asking that question. It would provide an exit for many more. But I am close to a former Mormon who wanted help with overcoming that and got nothing but the crappy 12 step stuff and no real community with an honest approach to his "problem." Funny, porn is Enemy # 1 for CoJC Corp but they don't have anything "inspired" to offer for it.

As a councilor in the bishopric I did more temple recommend interviews than I care to remember. The new questions are pretty close to the ones I used to rattle off.

Honestly. When I served in the bishopric the stake presidency was on our cases hard To have every elder worthy of a temple recommend. I never felt it was either the bishopric’s or the Elder’s Quorum Presidency’s responsibility to make an Elder worthy of the temple. That was their agency.

It seemed to me the church was in the process of driving out the members who did not want to go to the temple. Of course this is all about keeping the tithe payers and running the social members off. I think this was intentional.

It is their Great Hastening.

If anyone would pin down for me exactly what all the teachings, practices, and exact doctrines of TCOJCOLDS are I might be able to answer that question. Are they printed in the Church Handbook? Don't think so.

My answer to that question would be "Please show me where I can read the precise teachings, practices, and doctrines of your church (whatever you are calling it these days) and I'll tell you if I promote or support any teachings, practices, or doctrine that is contrary. But lacking anything even remotely precise in that area, I cannot truthfully begin to answer that question."

Anyone who answers in any other way has to be lying. There is absolutely no way to tell as TCOJCOLDS shifts its teachings, practices, and doctrine with every new president and every change in wind direction.

They need to qualify that question with the word 'current.' So it truly is a cult. Do you support every change in direction like the gaybies decisions? Do you unquestionably follow all the current policies and church politics?

Do you use the Satanic word "Mormon" in speaking of yourself and other members?
