We probably will never know the full details of GA compensation packages. But it seems highly unlikely that they would have a system that puts an old, feeble GA and his wife out on the street due to going on "emeritus" status. "Emeritus" status appears to be the equivalent of a retirement with retirement pay.

And it generally only applies to the Seventies and sometimes to Apostles. The Prophets never go on "emeritus" status, even if they can't remember their own names. Apostles do go on emeritus status occasionally (e.g. Legrand Richards). There's no point in keeping an Apostle in the pipeline to become Prophet if they're already senile and unable to speak to the church in any coherent way.

I've always suspected that paid retirement is what the sudden "calling" of Gordon Hinckley's son (Richard G. Hinckley) to be a Seventy was all about.

Up until that time, Dick Hinckley had been essentially working often as his dad's assistant, accompanying him on trips (by private jet) everywhere. He may have been reimbursed or paid on an ad hoc basis for such "services". But he didn't have any official income of his own. Otherwise, he had spent years doing nothing but church work (temple president, mission president, etc.) There is no indication in his bio that he ever had a real job or successful business. His dad was nearing the end of life and Dick Hinckley probably needed some kind of retirement plan. So they made him a Seventy and he went on "emeritus" status only 5 years after being called. There is no indication that he had to go on emeritus status for health reasons--and he was still only in his sixties at the time. Looks like he just put in 5 years as an "active" Seventy to keep up appearances.

Under the circumstances, it seems highly probable that Dick Hinckley is still collecting a monthly paycheck from the Church.

Families of high up church leadership get their tithing refunded?? Man, what a scam?

My former mission president was given emeritus status after serving in the 2nd Q of 70 for six years. For whatever reason, he was dismissed and I don't think it was due to health issues. I would guess that he's been receiving some sort of pension check for the last 15 years.

So, are you asking if Paul H. Dunn continued to get paid so he'd shut up? :-) :-) :-)
