"Gaslighting" is a term I have heard a lot (and used a bit) on this board. It is a manipulation technique that is common among mormons.

For years I thought I understood what the term mean but without seeing the movie. Now that I've watched the film I can see how helpful it would have been to understand it better when facing my TBM family. Gaslighting is such a nuanced subject that it is hard to distill the concepts down into a short description while still maintaining the impact of it. I have seen excellent articles on the subject but it took me seeing the movie to really get it.

The film is a classic and presents an intriguing story. It is well worth the viewing - not only because it is a great film but also because it is a widely-used classic reference that our culture is slowly loosing.

As fewer and fewer Gen X-ers and Millennials see the film the references to it loose their meaning.

Please watch the film! It will help you understand a part of what the cult did to you. The impact of this film can not be stressed enough!

He was so perfect as the manipulator! Super arrogant and condescending. Perfect mormon...

Great movie. I watch it every time it is on. Fun fact, it was Angela Lansbury's first movie :)
