It continues to showcase its backwardness rather than academic ability.

Besides the gay issues, which are a PR fiasco, it's home page continues to show links to Devotionals, rather than academic oriented links.

If they want to continue to look like a backward, hick religious outpost, they'll keep it up. If they want to become or at least look like a knowledge-based school, they will lose the emphasis on devotionals from the likes of Ballard and other Q of 12 on their home page!

I think they want kids who are scholars second and devoted mormons first.

If they were scholars first, they wouldn't be devout mormons.

I'm not sure scholars even comes in second.

You have a choice, getting a true education including knowledge and facts and all that stuff, OR, ensuring your entrance to the CK to be Heavenly Royalty forever and ever, amen. Scholarly knowledge not only can't compete with Celestial Glory, but in fact can get in the way and rob you of your eternal prize.

"The three greatest threats to the church according to Boyd K. Packer: “the gay-lesbian movement, the feminist movement, and the ever-present challenge from the so-called scholars or intellectuals.”

Heavenly Father prefers his subject obedient and stupid.

I wish there was a college course that went over the true history of the mormon religion, not the fantasy story. I'd take that course.

BYU's main purposes: to act as surrogate parents, to protect students from faith-destroying information, to provide a place for Mormons to meet, marry and mate, to educate them just enough to have careers that pay good tithing.

But the faculty take accreditation and academic credibility seriously. Their sly attempt to weasel out of anachronistic LGBT discrimination policy just backfired big time.

By now everyone knows that the church is rich enough to run BYU without kowtowing to anyone. So let them.

It can still do those things (provide a place for Mormon kids to meet, date and mate) without being so over the top.

Many Catholic colleges which don't have religious stuff all over their main websites and still retain certain religious values. Why not just provide a link to devotionals but not make it the main focus on its website? That makes it look like a small hick religious college, not an academic university.

If they're changing the name of LDS Business College, they should certainly update the BYU name to something more palatable. It really is too bad about the recent gay demonstrations and reactions, though. They had people thinking they were moving toward a more liberal attitude. Now it will have to work twice as hard to not be seen as a backwater school.
