"Devil went down to Georgia...*click*"

It was actually my dad who couldn't stand it. We still joke about the vacation we took where he would turn off the car radio as soon as it came on.

And to cover the flip side, the radio gets turned off should anything by Lynrd Skynrd come on...for some reason I just cannot stand them.

Build me up Buttercup by the Foundations
Sad lyrics, happy song.

WHY DO YOU build me up, build me up Buttercup baby just to let me down, let me down and mess me around, and then worst of all, worst of all, you never call Baby like you say you will, say you will but I love you still
I could sing and dance to that all day.

"obi dee oby doe life goes on... on, oh how life goes on."
by the Beetles, just another silly song about some perfect suburban couple with no problems, and the dog. Catchy tune though...

ETA:I missed a word. The original message read " . . . a song that you can't stand STILL" [caps mine]. I read it as "can't STAND." We CAN stand still when this song plays. We just can't stand the song.

This is my wife's and mine. It's a one-hit-wonder from the infamous Charlene.

When I played in a cover band in the 70s for company parties and weddings etc when there was a mix of generations a few songs were sure to get people dancing ... Twist and Shout I want to Hold Your Hand, Be Bop a Lua, La Bamba, That'll be the Day, Blue Suede Shoes, jail House rock ...

I play in a band now for fun and we play for summer festivals, art fairs etc. The funny thing is the same songs are still favorites to get people moving ... and some added to the list include ABBA songs that seem to drive the ladies into a dance frenzy.

I always disliked the Kookaburra song, especially when we had to sing it in parts that overlapped. This was a popular song to sing at MIA or scout camp-outs.

When one of my nieces was a year old, she would cry whenever she heard "Kookaburra." I was younger and less kind than I am now, and used to sing it to deliberately set her off.

My kids were at the age that my daughter liked this and my niece was living here and liked it when it was popular. I never hear it on the radio anymore, but I would definitely change stations.

I've got two. If I don't want to think, thin I will play this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZUHrWcdhb0

It barely made the top 40 back in 1972, but that's what I'm into.

And, if I want to think of how things could (and should) be, then I'll play

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0OOvVN8TcA

Interestingly, while this never made the U.S. pop top 40 when it was released back in 1976, it went all the way to #2 in the UK. Great stuff!

Van Halen: Jump

https://youtu.be/SwYN7mTi6HM

I was a kid when this song came out. My brother, cousin and I would always jump when ever they sang 'jump', or if sitting/driving we would lift our feet off the floor.
I still do it.

" Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air", WGN would always play that song along with the opening announcement on the radio.

This is one of my favourite music videos.
I'm an Army brat, so " jump" means this, literally.

That top hit by Adele i called a million times before, and that "Hey stone sister". One workplace instead of muzak they just tuned the radio to this station that just played the top five hits over and over again. Holy crap I offered to pay for muzak, it would have been an improvement. Even the diehard adele fans were complaining.

Also, any xmas music, esp. dean martin. They've been playing the same xmas music in retail outlets for over 40 years. Which is why I happy to send all my money to online shopping. See ya retail, won't cry for you.

P.s. I can't listen to anyone's song because youtube just want to spam coronavirus advertisements. Thanks youtube, I never heard of covid19 thanks for wasting my time. (rolling eyes) yeah I hate that coronavirus music, that's really boring.

Oh wait, me and mikemitchell both thought you wrote "a song you can't stand", like you hate it. Well that's what I get for negative thinking.

I was wondering why the songs posted were good songs.... duh.

I love this song, but love this video too of all the planes , past and present. I still remember my TWA days.
Also, this is a nice version of " Sound of silence". I live his voice in this, not their thrash music. He was classically trained, I think as a cantor at one point.

"Bad Moon Rising."

In happier (and younger) days, I loved it when I walked into the kitchen and found my otherwise sober wife dancing to CCR, like "Looking Out My Back Door." You'd never know now that she was ever like that. Unfortunately, things happen that wear you down, and then it's just survival.
